Aside from the occasional hand-transfer option that has discontinued history, a few slogans get us more riled up than will not be sold in the United States. We are all too familiar with this phrase as foreign automakers refuse to sell us sporty compact hot hatchbacks, powerful diesel engines, manual transmissions, and high performance wagons over and over again. And now VW has revealed a new engine version called the V8 TDI, which debuts next week at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.This 4.0-liter three-turbo V8 diesel engine the same as the Audi S'7 (also not sold in the US) produces 416 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. With this massive powerplant under the hood, Touareg can hit 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. VW continues to pump out enthusiastic-minded vehicles like the new Touareg. The first generation Touareg was developed together with the Porsche Cayenne and Audi No7, sharing platforms and a lot of technology. The cars were designed from the beginning as modern unibody SUVs, with all around independent suspension, and with ambitions of excellent performance both on and off the road. The third generation of Touareg is in production from 2018. The Initial Generation (2002-2010) offered an exceptional selection of engine blocks, including a five-, six-, eight-, ten- and twelve-cylinder engine of choice. The development of the Volkswagen Touareg (internally designated Typ 7L) was developed as a joint project between Porsche and Volkswagen Group with the participation of Audi and Volkswagen brands. The goal was to create an SUV that could handle on the road like a sports car. Then Porsche CEO Wendelin Videking wanted to expand the range of Porsche with a car that would not be affected by the fluctuations of the sometimes fickle market of sports cars. This led to Porsche designing the chassis, which was quite capable without road but handled on the road like a genuine sports car, something never before done in the SUV segment. The Volkswagen Touareg and Audi No.7 therefore took advantage of the unique and highly capable chassis designed for Porsche's first-ever four-door car with the imperative that the Cayenne must possess the sporting qualities the Porsche is famous for. The team, which had more than 300 members, was led by Klaus- Gerhard Volpert and based in Weissach, Germany, where Porsche is headquartered. As a result of the joint project, the Volkswagen Group PL71 platform, which is shared by VW Touareg, Audi No7 and Porsche Cayenne, was equipped, although there are significant differences in style, equipment, performance and technical differences between the three-brand models. Touareg and Porsche both seats are five, while the sprawling wheelbase No.7 accommodates the third row for seven passengers. The Volkswagen Touareg is built at the Volkswagen Bratislava plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, along with the Audi No7. The Porsche Cayenne was built by Porsche in Leipzig, Germany, at a factory built for cayenne production. At the time of the development of type 7L and for the first few years of production, Porsche was an independent owner, not a part of the Volkswagen concern, as it is today. Porsche was so successful with the Cayenne, it enjoyed the highest profit on car ratio in the automotive industry. Largely thanks to Cayenne's profits, Porsche later almost bought a Volkswagen. Because of demand, as well as the exchange rates of the euro against the US dollar, and different prices and environmental policies in the U.S., V6 and V8 engine variants make up most of the American offer Touareg. Compared to other Volkswagen cars sold in the U.S. that target the mass market, the Touaregs have come in more upscale finishes and are placed in competition with other luxury crossovers from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. However, a limited number of turbocharged V10 TDI diesel engines, Direct Injection (TDI) were available in the 2004 model year (before being pulled out for environmental reasons). They were returned to the United States in the 2006 model year as a Level I emission concept (43 government emissions). It has an automatic gradually locked central differential (with manual override) and a low range option that can be activated with control in the cockpit. Options to make vehicles more capable without driving include the available 4-wheel adaptive air suspension (plus continuous damping control) that can raise the height of the car's drive on command, and an internal switch allowing the rear differential to be manually blocked. A very rare but affordable option was also the front lock differential. Its land clearance load is at 6.3in (160 mm), Off Road Level is at 9.6 inches (244 mm), and Xtra clearance is 11.8 inches (300 mm).
