These events captured worldwide attention, not only because of the tragic human story of people killed and lives disrupted, but also because so many people were familiar with these regions through their personal tourism experiences. It is this familiarity, coupled with the real-time availability of information on unfolding events made possible through television and the Internet that made these disasters truly global in their impact. As a result, these regions suffered a double blow; first the damage caused by the event itself and then a substantial drop-off in tourism visits. This drop-off was a result both of the physical loss of tourism facilities and more interestingly, the perception—sometimes justified but oftentimes not—that the area either is unsafe because of the damage or that the area is inherently dangerous because of the high likelihood of a similar event occurring in the future. -

The south is the quieter half of the Andaman coast; even the tourist star of Ko Phi-Phi can’t rival the glam and crowds of Phuket. Instead, this region is the ideal choice for serious relaxation, outdoor fun and chummy nights at beachside bars. Just slowly putter from white-sand isle to white-sand isle. Social seekers will love the developed beauties such as Ko Phi-Phi and Ko Lanta where you can party into the wee hours and meet plenty of people on the beach, yet still find a peaceful strip of sand. And roads less travelled are just next door: head down through the lightly developed Trang islands to the even less visited Satun Province to find powder-white romantic beaches, outrageous snorkelling and plenty of spicy southern Thai culture. The entire region is made up of a spectacular undulating coastline pierced by sheer limestone formations, speckled with islands and cloaked in a carpet of verdant greenery. Besides the phenomenal diving and snorkelling, some of the best rock climbing in the world can be found in Krabi and Trang Provinces. All that limestone also means there are plenty of caves to explore; some house shrines while others require that you shimmy on your stomach to get through. You can also kayak to islands or through coastal mangroves. Much of this region shuts down in the April to November low season but even at that time you can still get to most places with determined effort. -

Supattra Pranee*, Jiraporn Boonying** & Pannalin Suchookorn*** College of Innovation and Management, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Bangkok, Thailand E-Mail: *[email protected], **[email protected], ***[email protected] ABSTRACT The findings from the community- based tourism model of OTOP village champion: OVC, a case study of Ban Ngao Community, Ranong Province revealed that it was a unification of strength of the community for creative initiation to develop the community’s resources for value added, create works, generate income as well as attract tourists to visit for learning community lifestyle through promotion of the community-based tourism in which people in a community can accommodate with tourists’ demand while allowing revenue generated by tourism. In the meantime, tourists can gain authentic experience of warm welcome and impressive services in connection with community’ s local wisdom, culture, lifestyle based on participation of all concerned parties which helps enhance a sustainable strength and generate inclusive income gain. To sustainably strengthen the community, the development process of OTOP products was applied in parallel with tourist attraction development to promote an initiative creation of the community under 4P principles; P: Place or tourist attraction aspect – having potential to be developed as a tourist attraction such as Wat Ban Ngao, P: Product or product development aspect – having unique OTOP products such as cashew nuts or Kayoo cashew nuts which are the well-known products, P: People or community aspect – people’ s participation has been strongly made, P: Preserve or preservation aspect – local identity can be conserved excellently and appropriately. -

COMMUNICATION FACTORS AND COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE TOURISM Chatchawee Kongdee A Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Communication Arts and Innovation) The Graduate School of Communication Arts and Management Innovation National Institute of Development Administration 2019 ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation Communication Factors and Community Management towards Sustainable Tourism Author Mrs. Chatchawee Kongdee Degree Doctor of Philosophy (Communication Arts and Innovation) Year 2019 The research aims to 1) explore tourism communication factors, community tourism management, and sustainable tourism, including other related factors in the community of Lanta Island in Krabi Province, and Yao Noi Island in Phang-nga Province, 2) study the direct and indirect effect of the tourism communication factors and community-based tourism management, including other found factors, on sustainable tourism of the communities of Lanta Island, Krabi Province , and Yao Noi Island, Phang- nga Province, and 3) develop and test the congruence of the measurement model and the structural equation model of tourism communication factors and community tourism management with empirical data. The research used mixed methods and divided the research procedure into 3 stages: the first stage by the qualitative method through 1) documentary analysis, 2) in-depth interview by semi-structured interview guide with 14 representatives of all concerned sectors, both within and outside the communities. The second stage was conducted by quantitative method with survey questionnaires collected from leaders of community-based tourism networks, community leaders, tourism entrepreneurs, officials of local administrative organization and regional governmental offices, representatives of educational and private sectors, and local people, totally 519 samples: 259 of Lanta Island, Krabi Province, and 260 of Yao Noi Island, Phang-nga Province. -

0 Preface The Royal Thai Government has a policy to promote the Thai ways as a national agenda. This has seen a change in the dimension of presenting Thailand from a Product Approach to be one of Value that tourists will receive by travelling in the country, as well as increase the recognition and image of Thailand as a travel destination of happiness by means of these Thai ways that have outstanding uniqueness unlike anywhere else in the world. This also comprises the dissemination of public relations, creating recognition, and stimulating international tourists to travel to and in Thailand. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has an operational plan to promote the health tourism products of Thailand through the Issue Base: Amazing Thailand Health and Wellness to create and promote health and beauty products that emphasise on value addedness. Consideration has been given to the demands of tourists who have displayed interest and pay attention to their well-being. Furthermore, Thailand is another destination for tourists who keep an eye on their health by coming to relax as well as take care of their body and mind. More importantly, the health services and products of Thailand have set standards, uniformity, and use a combination of Western and Eastern science. There is also the utilisation of Thai wisdom and Thai herbs that help in the healing and caring of health, which is especially unique to Thailand. The Facilities Section, Services Promotion Division has decided to create a Thainess tourist service product package and route database for health and well-being, which reflects being Thai in each region of the country for the tourist group who loves Health and Wellness including various services in all dimensions. -
The Research and Development of Tie-Dyed
THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF TIE-DYED HANDICRAFT PRODUCTS FROM KRABI PROVINCE FOR THE DESIGNING OF KO KLANG COMMUNITY’S CONTEMPORARY SOUVENIRS, LEADING KRABI PROVINCE TO BECOME A CREATIVE CITY Khanin Phriwanrat Creative Products Design, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Suansunandha Rajabhat University, Bangkok 10300, Thailand Corresponding author: [email protected] Received: December 5, 2018; Revised: July 31, 2019; Accepted: September 26, 2019 Abstract The main objective of this research was to study the techniques and processes of tie-dyed cloths in order to apply those techniques and processes to souvenirs made by tie-dyed cloths from Krabi Province. The study started from collecting area data, tourism data, techniques and processes of tie-dyed cloths from villager groups in Krabi Province. The data were analyzed and used in the designing of Krabi Province’s contemporary souvenirs. In addition, the data were disseminated to the local and communities in Krabi Province. According to the study results, the tie-dyed cloth-making of Baan Koh Klang was considered local handicraft created from villagers’ experiences through the learning of natural resources available in the community for beneficial usage. The tie-dyed cloths have artistic values and beauty. The tie-dyed cloths’ background is created from the use of simple materials and processes. They have locally unique styles, especially in their natural dye colors obtained from the community. The making of tie-dyed cloths, in Baan Koh Klang, can be extended in terms of knowledge and can be turned into a creative activity. This can create benefits for communities, society and economic values.
