HUGE CELLAR LOCKDOWN SALE Greetings Wine Aficionados, Perhaps like you, I’ve currently polished off a bit more of my cellar than I might have expected to under more normal conditions. Some of those I opened were on the money, some of them were probably hoping I’d bring a corkscrew their way a little earlier, but that’s part of the mystique of it all, isn’t it. There’s nothing predictable about wine and vintages, and that’s why we all remain fixated. Having seen that many of our customers with all that time on your hands, have been working their way through the wine collection. And for those who didn’t have a cellar in the first place, you might have been wishing you did for the last few weeks. Therefore, with plenty of time at home still on everybody’s to-do list, we’ve locked down low prices on our cellar wines so you can replenish your stocks or just start a whole new collection. We need to clear some stock and get things going again, which means our pain is your gain. Our Huge Cellar Lockdown Sale is going deep, from today until the end of April. Don’t hang about, because these wines won’t. Anyway, in this bold new world we now inhabit, you can join in to view our live tastings; the schedule is right here online www.glengarry.co.nz/tastings. We have some exciting stuff coming up in May. Sibling of the mighty Salon and a legend in its own right, Champagne Delamotte is conducting a tasting tonight that should be hugely inter- esting, but in a timeline that was too late for any of us. However, the good news is that we will record it to share with you sometime in the future. Remember that we have a fully up to speed sales team on the phones to offer advice and assist you with your selections. With best wishes from my bubble in Grey Lynn: Liz Wheadon - General Manager - Glengarry Wines Château Bourgneuf This Right Bank estate is situated in the heart of the prestigious Pomerol appellation, spread over almost 9 hectares in one unique holding. It is, indeed, one of the oldest family-owned properties there, having been in the hands of the Vayron family since 1821 and managed by them now for eight generations. The vines are pretty well established too, the average age 40 years, with one parcel over 70. The varietal mix is 90% Merlot to 10% Cabernet Franc, and the main section - their best terroir - almost exclusively clay. Bourgneuf produces a fairly traditional, lighter, rustic style of Pomerol. Its stocks are on the rise, and the neighbours (Châteaux Trotanoy and L’Eglise Clinet) are high- profile. PLU Brand Name Vintage Retail Now 41196 CHATEAU BOURGNEUF 2016 $121.00 $72.60 93 / Decanter "This was extremely subdued when tasted at en primeur, but the way it's nudging forward is extremely promising. Lush fruit appears on the attack and right on through the-mid palate, before you are pulled up hard on the finish by the strength of the tannins, suggesting a long life ahead and a patient wait before it's fully ready. Things are softened by a creamy caramel note coming in as things open in the glass, which keeps you enjoyably engaged with the wine. Drinking Window 2022 - 2035." 41195 CHATEAU BOURGNEUF POMEROL 2015 $97.00 $69.99 One of the oldest family-owned properties in Pomerol, having been in the hands of the Vayron family since 1821 and now managed by them for eight generations. 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Displaying dark plum notes on the nose, the structure greets you at the out-set. Boasting a core of ripe red fruits and well-formed tannins, this lovely Pomerol is deliciously velvety with a fresh and lively finish. La Serre takes its name from its south-facing position ( La Serre can be translated as ‘greenhouse’ in reference the property’s excellent sun exposure). The château was erected in the 17th Century and procured in the 1950’s by the d’Arfeuille family, who are still in residence today. The soil is a combination of chalk, clay and sand and supports a vine mix of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wines are modestly priced, so they offer excellent value in a good vintage. Fresh and clean in style, their aging potential is around 6-10 years. A great-quality Saint- Emilion Bordeaux that's perfect drinking right now. 42543 CHATEAU LA SERRE SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU CLASSE 2014 $89.00 $71.20 88/100 | Decanter: "Plateau estate. Red fruit with a little toast on the nose. Palate accented towards the fruit. Sweet entry then fresh and juicy. Chalky, minerally finish. Harmonious." - James Lawther 42548 CHATEAU LA SERRE SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU CLASSE 2015 $105.00 $84.00 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, this was one of the standouts for me from 2015; Chateau La Serre have seriously over delivered for sure. The nose is lifted and aromatic, with generous fruit and an appealing texture; smart and very long, lingering supple finish. 42557 CHATEAU LA SERRE ST EMILION GRAND CRU 2016 $135.00 $79.00 94 / Decanter "This will take a little longer to come around than the 2015 vintage at La Serre, displaying grip right through the palate. The mid-palate fills out with blackberries and black cherries lifted by violet notes. It speaks clearly of its limestone soils with the freshness that runs through it, although it's a touch subdued right now. Extremely pretty and will age well. Harvested 10-21 October, with no added sulphur during vinification, and matured in 50% new oak. Stéphane Toutoundji consults. Drinking Window 2023 - 2035." Their goal was to create a Bordeaux- style blend based around Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a classic collision of Old World and New, from the fashioning of the winery through to the wine itself. With two such famously successful operators, money was clearly no object in bringing this vision to fruition. Has attained cult status. PLU Brand Name Vintage Retail Now 36542 OPUS ONE CABERNET 2014 $790.00 $632.00 Opus One’s main event. Fragrant florals, fresh garden herbs and forest floor give way to a concentrated blend of red cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant, the velvet-textured palate building to a vibrant finish. James Suckling gave it 97/100: "Mesmerizing aromas of flowers, bark, currants and blackberries. So perfumed. You just want to smell it. Exquisite tension and finesse with an almost Burgundian texture, yet it’s Napa in its soul with ripe fruit, stones, spices and Chinese tea leaf flavors. Savory and delicious. Drinkable but better in 2020." 36554 OPUS ONE CABERNET 2015 $790.00 $632.00 98 | James Suckling "Purity and brilliance on the nose with so much currant and flower character. Roses, currant bush and fresh leaves, too. Brightness is the word that comes to mind. Full-bodied and broad-shouldered. Juicy and so gorgeous now. Balance is so wonderful here. All about harmonious fruit and tannin balance. I like it slightly better than the excellent 2014. 81% cabernet sauvignon, 4% petit verdot, 7% cabernet franc, 6% merlot and 2% malbec. Drink or hold." 36552 OPUS ONE CABERNET 2016 $999.00 $799.20 The 2016 Opus One is remarkably elegant and bright offering sumptuous aromas of fresh red and blue fruit, baking spices and vanilla, and a delicate fragrance of spring florals. The initial bouquet is augmented by more nuanced notes of sage, rosemary, and black olive. Juicy flavors of black cherry, blackberry and cassis flood the palate and creamy, fine-grained tannins deliver a delightfully round structure. Harmonious and lively, the flavors linger to create an enduring finish with touches of dark chocolate and espresso.

The 2016 Opus One is composed of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec. During fermentation and maceration, component lots received an average of 17 days of skin contact prior to 18 months of barrel aging in 100% new French oak.
