The country’s inbound tourist volume expanded at a review-period (2008–2012) CAGR of X.XX% and is expected to record growth over the forecast period (2013–2017) at a CAGR of X.XX%. However, the government’s expenditure on tourism was less than in neighbouring countries at EURXX.X billion, accounting for only X.X% of the country’s GDP in 2012. Meanwhile, Germany, the UK and France spent EURXXX.X billion, GBPXXX.X billion and EURXXX.X billion on tourism respectively. This low expenditure is expected to have an adverse impact on the country’s travel and tourism sector over the forecast period. Domestic tourist volumes increased from XX.X million in 2008 to XX.X million in 2012, at a review- period CAGR of X.XX%. Inbound tourism also increased during the review period. The number of international arrivals rose from XX.X million in 2008 to XX.X million in 2012, at a CAGR of X.XX%. Outbound tourism is expected to rise at a CAGR of X.XX% over the forecast period, increasing from XX.X million outbound departures in 2012 to XX.X million by 2017. The aviation market expanded during the review period. Passengers carried by domestic and international airlines reached XX.X million in 2012, after increasing at a review-period CAGR of X.XX%. The financial crisis adversely affected the Dutch hotel market as hotel revenue declined by XX.X% in 2009. The Dutch car rental market grew at a review-period CAGR of X.XX% to reach a market value of EURXXX.X million (US$X.X billion) in 2012. Dutch travel intermediaries’ revenue is expected to increase at a forecast-period CAGR of X.XX% to reach EURX.X billion (USXX.X billion) in 2017.
