HOWEVER, due to the fact that the 1969 text is no longer in publication, complicated by the fact that these copies are forty-four (44) years old and in a very fragile condition, this PDF version of the text was created for student use in the Department of Mathematics and Science. - Professor Charles Rubenstein, January 2013 Man of High Fidelity: Edwin Howard Armstrong EDWIN HOWARD ARMSTRONG Was the last – and perhaps the least known – of the great American Inventors. Without his major contributions, the broadcasting industry would not be what it is today, and there would be no FM radio. But in time of mushrooming industry and mammoth corporations, the recognition of individual genius is often refused, and always minimized. This is the extraordinary true story of the discovery of high fidelity, the brilliant man and his devoted wife who battled against tremendous odds to have it adopted, and their long fight against the corporations that challenged their right to the credit and rewards. Mrs. Armstrong finally ensured that right nearly ten years after her husband’s death. • Major Edwin Howard Armstrong Newsletter Amateur Radio Has Been
Major Edwin Howard Armstrong Newsletter Amateur radio has been around ever since the late 19th century and due to some pioneering inventors in the early 20th century, amateur radio persists till this day. Major Edwin Howard Armstrong is one of those early inventors who helped amateur radio enormously and he is arguably one of the most influential inventors in amateur radio. His contributions enlarged the capabilities of what we now know that the amateur radio can do. According to PBS “this brilliant engineer advanced both AM and FM radio, turning them into viable broadcast technologies, and innovated military radio uses in [both] World Wars.” In addition to this, he enlisted in both wars and utilized his ingenuity to truly create a communication network that could enrich the lives of many during and years after the wars. However, many people do not know the remarkable service driven life of Major Edwin Howard Armstrong. His early life is fascinating and his later life is remarkable, inspiring as well, and tragic all at the same time. When Major Edwin Armstrong was born, he was given the name Edwin Howard Armstrong and he was born on December 18,1890 and grew up in a home overlooking the Hudson River in Yonkers, New York. He had an interesting childhood where he was already building and inventing radio equipment. The reason for his interest early on in radios could be said to have originated because of a book called “The Boys Book of Inventions.” This book had many ideas for inventions for boys and this sparked a fire in Edwin to dedicate his entire life to inventing new technological gadgets and to also learn and be a respected electrical engineer.

  • Term Paper Corrected Edition
Intellectual Property Rights: As they pertained to Edwin H. Armstrong Benjamin Foresta EE 413-101 Prof. M. Sosnowski TERM PAPER 11- 16-2000 The idea for intellectual property rights was originally conceived as a protective mechanism for inventors to keep others from stealing their ideas. Since intellectual property is not a tangible item, proving ownership and safeguarding are exceedingly difficult. The court must rely on documentation and data collected during the design as proof of ownership. There is no better example of limits of intellectual property law as in the life of Edwin H. Armstrong. Edwin Armstrong was born in New York in 1890. As a young boy Armstrong was stricken with rheumatic fever. Since he had to be home he listened to a lot of radio programs, and became increasingly interested in the work of Marconi. Armstrong read every book he could find on the subject of wireless communication. In 1913 a 23-year- old Armstrong made his first contribution to the world of radio. Armstrong experimented with positive feedback. He realized that given enough feedback, the poorly operating triode vacuum tube could be made into a stable oscillator perfect for transmitting. Additionally, if the triode was given less feedback, the tube became a more sensitive radio receiver, more sensitive than any other tube at that time. Since he was young, Armstrong did not know the value of intellectual property rights. Although Armstrong did patent his regeneration techniques, he did not include all the documentation about his making this important discovery. The inventor of the audion tube Lee De Forest read about Armstrong’s work with regeneration and immediately started his own research into regenerative techniques.
