CV PENKA ANGELOVA Penka Angelova born in 1949 is Professor of German history of literature at the university in Veliko Tarnovo as well as Professor of German cultural history and European civilization at the University of Ruse in Bulgaria. In 1972 she finished her studies of German language and literature studies and Russian studies at the University of Sofia. From 1977 until 1981 she was a PH.D. student at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena to do her doctorate in “The reception of classic romantic poetry and world perception of the Hermann Hesse in the literary works from 1919 to 1932”. In 1986 she habilitated at the Veliko Tarnovo University with her work “the structural and functional specifics of Kafkaʼs novels ʻThe Trialʼ and ʻThe castleʼ”. In the year 2005 she completed another habilitation (“The theoretical literary works of Elias Canetti. Traces to mythic thinking”. Penka Angelova is currently the head of the institute of German and Netherland language and literature studies at the Veliko Tarnovo University, head of the Austrian library “Elias Canetti” in Ruse and the Austrian library in Veliko Tarnovo. Furthermore she is an assistant of the Ruse University and vice-director for the academic affairs of the Bulgarian-Romanian Interuniversity Europe Center (BRIE) and president of the International Elias Canetti Society in Ruse as well as the head of the Elias Canetti publisher. In 2002 she received the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art and 2006 the cultural award of the town Ruse. She gave a lot of guest lectures in German, Hungarian Austrian universities and institutions. She has published more than a hundred papers inter alia in Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Japan, the USA and Canada but also books as for example “Novel worlds. Studies of the novel in the 20th century” and “A firedrake loves me, o mother. Escapades of a specialist in German studies.” Moreover Penka Angelova is a translator (beneath for Ilija Trojanow and Julie Zeh “Attack on freedom”) and editor of several scientific series, beneath them the “Library of Elias Canetti in Bulgarian Language”. .
