The Metro rapid rail passenger will use larecards instead of cash. Farecards may be purchased lor immediate or future travel needs. The value of the farecard will be encoded on a magnetic stripe and be readable in printed form. At the start of a trip, entry data is encoded on the card by a fare gate. At the destination station, the cost of the ride will be deducted from the value of the farecard by an exit gate. The remaining value will be encoded magnetically and printed on the card. The card will be returned to the pas senger for subsequent use, until there is no cash value left.
