JETHRO TULL Aqualung im Auftrag: medienAgentur Stefan Michel T 040-5149 1467 F 040-5149 1465 [email protected] JETHRO TULL Aqualung The 45th Anniversary Edition Repack Das vierte JETHRO TULL-Album in der überarbeiteten Jubiläumsedition auf 2 CDs/2DVDs mit zusätzlichen Songs, der EP Life Is A Long Song, einem Promo- Video von 1971 und allen Tracks in mehreren audiophilen Formaten! VÖ: 22. April! Drei zusätzliche Tracks – Just Trying To Be, Wind Up (Early Version) und Wond’ring Aloud, Again (Full Morgan Version) sind nun als 5.1-Mixe erhältlich. Zwei der EP-Tracks, Life Is A Long Song und Up The Pool erscheinen in dieser Form zum ersten Mal auf CD. Ein 80-seitiges Booklet mit Textbeiträgen und Fotos aus der 40th Anniversary Edition runden die Repack Edition Die DVD 2 präsentiert überdies den Promotion-Film Life Is A Strong Song von 1971 mit dem neu gemixten Stereo-Soundtrack, der hiermit zum ersten Mal erscheint. Newer fans beware....By JTull0FanI was looking forward to this book, which was delayed many times over the last couple of years, that probably made it more imperative that I finally get it. Telling a Tull fan that something new is out there but they can't have it is a brutal torture.....When it finally arrived in early Oct. I dug right in. I was very happy with the amount of interviews the author was able to include. I do love reading (and listening) to the first hand accounts of The Blades and The John Evan Band and the early tales of Tull by ex-band members. That said, when the author began filling in the blanks between interviews I began recognizing his quoting (word for word) from "The Story of Jethro Tull" a radio show done with Ian Anderson and Terry Ellis in 1975.

  • An Analysis of Twentieth-Century Flute Sonatas by Ikuma Dan, Hikaru
Flute Repertoire from Japan: An Analysis of Twentieth-Century Flute Sonatas by Ikuma Dan, Hikaru Hayashi, and Akira Tamba D.M.A. Document Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Musical Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Daniel Ryan Gallagher, M.M. Graduate Program in Music The Ohio State University 2019 D.M.A. Document Committee: Professor Katherine Borst Jones, Advisor Dr. Arved Ashby Dr. Caroline Hartig Professor Karen Pierson 1 Copyrighted by Daniel Ryan Gallagher 2019 2 Abstract Despite the significant number of compositions by influential Japanese composers, Japanese flute repertoire remains largely unknown outside of Japan. Apart from standard unaccompanied works by Tōru Takemitsu and Kazuo Fukushima, other Japanese flute compositions have yet to establish a permanent place in the standard flute repertoire. The purpose of this document is to broaden awareness of Japanese flute compositions through the discussion, analysis, and evaluation of substantial flute sonatas by three important Japanese composers: Ikuma Dan (1924-2001), Hikaru Hayashi (1931- 2012), and Akira Tamba (b. 1932). A brief history of traditional Japanese flute music, a summary of Western influences in Japan’s musical development, and an overview of major Japanese flute compositions are included to provide historical and musical context for the composers and works in this document. Discussions on each composer’s background, flute works, and compositional style inform the following flute sonata analyses, which reveal the unique musical language and characteristics that qualify each work for inclusion in the standard flute repertoire. These analyses intend to increase awareness and performance of other Japanese flute compositions specifically and lesser- known repertoire generally.

VENTURING IN THE SLIPSTREAM THE PLACES OF VAN MORRISON’S SONGWRITING Geoff Munns BA, MLitt, MEd (hons), PhD (University of New England) A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Western Sydney University, October 2019. Statement of Authentication The work presented in this thesis is, to the best of my knowledge and belief, original except as acknowledged in the text. I hereby declare that I have not submitted this material, either in full or in part, for a degree at this or any other institution. .............................................................. Geoff Munns ii Abstract This thesis explores the use of place in Van Morrison’s songwriting. The central argument is that he employs place in many of his songs at lyrical and musical levels, and that this use of place as a poetic and aural device both defines and distinguishes his work. This argument is widely supported by Van Morrison scholars and critics. The main research question is: What are the ways that Van Morrison employs the concept of place to explore the wider themes of his writing across his career from 1965 onwards? This question was reached from a critical analysis of Van Morrison’s songs and recordings. A position was taken up in the study that the songwriter’s lyrics might be closely read and appreciated as song texts, and this reading could offer important insights into the scope of his life and work as a songwriter. The analysis is best described as an analytical and interpretive approach, involving a simultaneous reading and listening to each song and examining them as speech acts.

IA: Hello, Marc Allan please. Q: This is Marc. IA: Hi Marc, this is Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. Q: Hi Ian, how are you? IA: I'm very well, I've just been speaking repeatedly to a young lady, I mean quite a young lady from apparently on a phone number that's calling for the last 10 minutes. (laughs) Q: Oh wow. IA: And finally had to explain what I was trying to do and that her mom looked up your telephone number and I'd got the, well, whoever gave me the phone number had got it wrong. So somewhere out there in a suburb not too far from you is a young lady who is very bemused by the fact that some strange English person from a rock band called Jethro Tull, which she'd obviously never heard, (laughs) trying to reach her to talk to her about our forthcoming tour. Q: Gee, would've been kind of exciting if you had reached a fan, you know, and then somebody was really thrilled and kept you on the phone. IA: Actually, I think the girl had heard of us, but when she said to her mom, she said, "What's that, a delivery service?" (laughs) 'Cause I thought it was gonna be like she was gonna get through to her mom, I said mom, Mom said, "What, let me speak to him." But no, Mom hadn't heard of us but little girly had, maybe little girly wasn't so little but she was, you know, we're talking teenage.

Buzzine » Music DVDs and Blu-rays http://www.buzzine.com/2009/10/music-dvds-and-blu-rays-2/ Music DVDs and Blu-rays Talking Heads, Tull, Quincy Jones and More... Talking Heads Stop Making Sense Blu-ray Darryl Morden Celebrated as one of the greatest Music Editor concert films of all time (alongside Family Editor movies such as The Last Waltz ), Stop Making Sense captivates again in this 25h anniversary Blu-ray release. Director Jonathan Demme created a sense of intimacy and greater scope, and frontman David Byrne was never more dynamic in a set that’s a best-of up for the band, including the definitive “Burning Down the House,” a gripping “Life During Wartime,” a swirlin’ “Once in a Lifetime,” the herky-jerky bop of “Girlfriend Is Better,” and the group’s liquid rendition of Al Green’s “Take Me To The River.” Bonus material here includes press conference; bonus tracks “Cities,” “Big Business” and the rhythmic “I Zimbra”; band and Demme commentary; and storyboards. Plus, there’s an option for various audio mixes. Five stars and more for this one. Jethro Tull Living With the Past DVD + CD Reissuing the decade-old video and album as a DVD and CD combo, Living With the Past is a warts- and-all look back at some Jethro Tull history, contrasted by what was then the current band line-up in concert. Of course, you’ll find the forever-staples “Aqualung” and “Locomotive Breath,” as well as a slice of “Thick as Brick” and the Bach variation of “Bouree.” But some of the best numbers include less-famous songs, such as “Roots to Branches” or “Jack in the Green.” There’s a reunion of the original Tull quartet line-up from 1968 that’s loose and good-natured, plus they play “My Sunday Feeling” together.
