Flash Photography is not allowed during competitions. The use of Video/Camcorders is prohibited during competitions unless specifically authorised. Audience participation and clapping is prohibited during performances at competitions. Need to check this still applies and if so include in programme THE INTERNATIONAL PAN CELTIC FESTIVAL 2018 Fáilte ón gCathoirleach Idirnáisiúnta Máirín Nic Dhonnchadha | Cathaoirleach, Comhairle Idirnáisiúnta Pan Cheilteach Is mór an onóir dom, thar ceann na Comhairle Idirnáisiúnta Pan-Cheilteach, fáilte mhór Cheilteach a chur roimh gach duine chuig an 47ú Féile Idirnáisiúnta Pan-Cheilteach. Tá ríméad orainn a bheith ar ais i Leitir Ceanainn arís, óstbhaile a bhí flaithiúil, fáiltiúil agus gnaíúil linn sna blianta atá caite. Táimid ag súil go mór le bualadh le seanchairde anseo agus, thar aon ní eile, le glún nua a mhealladh a leanfaidh ag cur chun cinn muintearas, cairdeas agus comhthuiscint i measc na náisiún Ceilteach trínár n-ealaíona, ár dteangacha, ár bhfóram dioscúrsa agus ár spórt. Is é ár mór-mhian gréasáin nua a bhunú chun go gcabhróimid lena chéile staid ár dteangacha, ár gcultúr agus ár n-ealaíon a neartú ar mhaithe leis na Ceiltigh uile a thiocfaidh inár ndiaidh.

Gabhaimid buíochas le Comhairle Contae Dhún na nGall agus le feidhmeannas na Comhairle as a dtiomantas don fhéile agus d’aidhmeanna Pan-Cheilteach, go háirithe leo siúd a ghlac cúram ar leith d’imeachtaí na féile, Charles Sweeney, Ciaran Ó Máirtín, Padráig Ó Dochartaigh, Christina O’Domhnaill, Máire Ní Fhearraigh, Róise Ní Laifeartaigh, agus Seán Ó Daimhín. Gabhaim buíochas speisialta le Gearóid Ó Maonaigh as Clár na Féile a riaradh – is mór againn a shaineolas, a spiorad agus a ildánacht.

Is mór againn tacaíocht na n-urraithe ar fad a chuireann ar ár gcumas an fhéile a reáchtáil agus na Coistí Náisiún- ta a thugann córacha, ceoltóirí, damhsóirí agus lucht tacaíochta chuig an bhféile gach aon bhliain. It is my great honour, on behalf of the International Pan Celtic Council, to extend a hearty Celtic welcome to all participants and visitors to the 47th International Pan Celtic Festival. We are delighted to be back in Leitir Ceanainn again, having enjoyed the warmth of this host-town’s welcome and hospitality in the past. We look forward to renewing old friendships and, most importantly, to embracing a new generation who will continue to celebrate our shared Celtic heritage. Our greatest aspiration is to encourage networks of cooperation across our six nations to support the work of each nation in strengthening our languages, our culture and our traditional arts. We are indebted to Donegal County Council for supporting the ideals of Pan Celtic and for devoting valuable time and resources to the festival. It is a mark of the values and principles of the Councillors and Management of this County Council that they endeavour to enrich the community they serve through the promotion of culture, arts and heritage. I am grateful to Charles Sweeney, Ciaran Martin, Paddy Doherty, Christina O’Donnell, Máire Ní Fhearraigh, Róise Ní Laifeartaigh and Seán Ó Daimhín in particular who have surmounted many trials with grace and good humour and continue to give of their time and energy, above and beyond the call of duty. I wish to acknowledge the mammoth achievement of the Events Co-Ordinator, Gearóid Ó Maonaigh, who only joined the team very recently and express our appreciation of his guidance and expertise. We are beholden to the people of Leitir Ceanainn who have opened their doors and hearts once again this Easter Week of 2018 to from Alba, Breizh, Cymru, Éire, Mannin, Kernow and beyond. 2 THE INTERNATIONAL PAN CELTIC FESTIVAL 2018 Fáilte ó Mhéara Leitir Ceanainn Mayor of Letterkenny Welcome Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh Mar Mhéara ar bhaile Leitir Ceanainn, is mian liom fearadh na fáilte a chur romhaibh uilig chuig Féile Phan-Cheilteach 2018. Tá lúcháir mhór orm gur anseo a bheidh an Fhéile i mbliana, agus fosta ar an bhliain seo chugainn in 2019. Bhí an Fhéile Phan-Cheilteach anseo cheana féin in 2007, agus tá mé cinnte, daoibhse a bhí anseo roimhe, go bhfuil athruithe móra le feiceáil ar an bhaile agus ar an cheantar máguaird. Ach tá rud amháin nár athraigh, is é sin an fháilte a chuireann an pobal romhaibhse ar fad. Tá súil agam go mbainfidh sibh uilig an-sult as an Fhéile Phan-Cheilteach, go gcasfaidh sibh le bhur gcairde ó na tíortha Ceilteacha eile, agus go gcruthóidh sibh cairdis úra.

As Mayor of Letterkenny, I welcome you all to the Pan Celtic Festival 2018. It gives me great pleasure and joy that the Festival will return here to Letterkenny again in 2019. The Festival was last in Letterkenny in 2007, and I am certain that those of you who visited us then will find many changes in our town. However, there is one thing that has not changed, that is the welcome to you from the community of Letterkenny.

I hope that you enjoy the Pan Celtic Festival, that you meet with your friends from the Celtic countries, and that you make new friends here.

3 THE INTERNATIONAL PAN CELTIC FESTIVAL 2018 Fáilte ó Mhéara na Condae Welcome from the Cathaoirleach of Donegal Cllr Gerry McMonagle Is mór an onóir agus an phribhléid domsa, Méara na Condae, fáiltiú rómhaibh ar fad chuig an Fhéile Phan-Cheilteach 2018. Tá an obair déanta ag Líonra Leitir Ceanainn, ag comhoibriú le heagrais chultúrtha eile i Leitir Ceanainn agus i nDún na nGall leis an Fhéile seo a chur ar siúl. Tréaslaím fosta le foireann na Comhairle Condae atá ag obair go dícheallach le cúpla bliain leis an Fhéile Phan-Cheilteach a mhealladh go Leitir Ceanainn i mbliana agus ar an bhliain seo chugainn fosta. Tá clár imeachtaí gnóthach agus spéisiúil leagtha amach acu dúinn sna laetha atá le theacht. Tá turas fada déanta agaibh ó bhur mbaile le bheith linn anseo, agus tá súil agam go rachaidh an tsaoire ghairid seo chun tairbhe daoibh, agus go dtiocfaidh sibh ar ais arís go minic le cuairt a thabhairt orainn. Bainigí uilig sult as an Fhéile Phan-Cheilteach, coinnigí sábháilte, agus go mbainfidh sibh ar fad an baile amach ina dhiaidh seo, lán brí agus fuinnimh

It is both an honour and a privilege for me as Cathaoirleach of Donegal, to welcome all of you here to the Pan Celtic Festival 2018. Great work has been done by Líonra Leitir Ceanainn in co-operation with many other cultural organisations in organising this Festival. I wish also to thank County Council staff who have worked tirelessly for a number of years to bring this Festival to Letterkenny, this year and also next year. They have laid before us a programme which will keep us entertained and busy over the coming days. You have travelled great distances to be with us, and I hope that this short holiday will benefit you, and that you return often to visit us. Please enjoy the Pan Celtic Festival 2018, keep safe, and that you may all arrive home after this revived and invigorated.

EXHIBITION: A TREK THROUGH TIME TUESDAY 03/04/2018 - FRIDAY 06/04/2018 10AM – 5.30PM This colourful exhibition curated by Donegal County Archives (The Archives Service of Donegal County Council). The exhibition explores many of the themes and historical events of significance from the past 250 years in through original archives such as photographs, letters, posters, official documents, public notices, flyers, maps, plans, memos, notes and newspaper articles, all from the Donegal County Archives Collection. The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase the variety of interesting and attractive archival collections held by the service and to introduce archival material to as wide an audience as possible, including interested researchers, local people, heritage and history groups, teachers and students and visitors to the county. It aims to increase awareness of local archives and local history and demonstrate their inherent value. Ionad/Venue: Central Library Táille/Adm: Free

EXHIBITION: A VANISHED WORLD – THE LANDED GENTRY OF DONEGAL TUESDAY 03/04/2018 - FRIDAY 06/04/2018 10AM – 4.00PM Donegal County Museum is based in part of the old Letterkenny Workhouse, built in 1846. In the ground floor gallery of the Museum is the exhibition “A Vanished World – the Landed Gentry of Donegal” which explores the stories of those who lived and worked in the vanished world of Donegal’s big houses in the early twentieth century. The first floor gallery explores the history of Donegal from the Stone Age to the Twentieth Century. Of particular interest is the nameplate of Niall MacGiolla Bhride on loan from the National Museum of Ireland. Patrick Pearse’s only case as a Barrister-at-law was when he represented Niall MacGiolla Bhride from Creeslough, Co Donegal in court in 1906. The story of this case and its impact on the Irish language is a fascinating insight into local and national history.
