Admiedly, HEARTS BY FAITH the blessing comes with the crucifix having already adorned our sacred space for quite some me. We remembered them at every Mass evening Masses—so please consider coming! and in our private prayers in all the holy places. Thank you also for your prayers for us along our way, and thank you for Faithfully, remembering my sister and brother-in-law in your prayers as they began their married life together! Fr. Benjamin Lile It was a great joy to return home and have Deacon Shawn Polman preach his first weekend of Masses at St. Michael’s (and not just because I didn’t have to prepare a homily). I will connue to reflect on the simple yet profound point that he made—that consciousness of our own weakness leads to gratude, which then leads us to Mass, which is the perfect act of true thanksgiving. This is where the deepest happiness is to be found in life: when we abandon the faguing roune of self-reliance and acknowledge that we belong to another and rely upon Him for everything. Then going to Mass no longer feels like a burden. Then we seek out his mercy in the confessional with confidence (even if there is sll a bit of human anxiety). Then we will want to come to adore him in the Eucharist. Then we will have an overabundance of His Love in our hearts to share with those who are poor in any number of ways. A few days a er we le Rome, Pope Francis celebrated a Mass in St. Peter’s Square in which several holy souls were declared to be among the Communion of Saints. Most well-known among them was John Henry Cardinal Newman, the great Anglican convert to the Catholic Faith in 19th century England, named a Cardinal late in his life by Pope Leo XIII. Newman is a great hero of mine, as you well know. His life and legacy is worth studying. A special privilege of our pilgrimage was to celebrate Mass on our final day in Rome (October 9) in St. John Henry Newman’s tular church of San Giorgio in Velabro, which was just a couple blocks away from our hotel. For those who don’t know, every Cardinal of the Catholic Church is assigned a church in the city of Rome. Historically, the cardinals of the Church were the clergy of Rome itself, surrounding the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. This tradion allows the Cardinals around the world to symbolically connue that role. BLESSING OF THE CRUCIFIX I am excited to let you know that Bishop Andrew Cozzens will be with us next Saturday evening, October 26, to celebrate the ▪ 29thth Sunday in Ordinary Time 3 Mission and Pastoral Care Jennifer Schneider, Director of Pastoral Care and Mission 651-463-5224, [email protected] EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS Where Is the Evidence?
