Before I get started with whatever it is I am going to say, I have an important bit of information for you. "AFTER TALKING WITH JIM STONE AND GETTING CONCURRENCE FROM THE PRESIDENT, THERE IS GOING TO BE A CHANGE IN THE DATES FOR THE AUGUST AEROGRAPH. SINCE INPUT WAS DUE BY JULY 15TH AND THE REUNION WON'T BE OVER TILL JULY 24TH, THE DATES FOR THE AUGUST AEROGRAPH WILL BE MOVED FORWARD ONE MONTH. I WILL NEED YOUR INPUT BY AUGUST 15TH AND THE AEROGRAPH WILL BE MAILED THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER. THIS WILL ACCOMMODATE BEING ABLE TO PRINT THE MINUTES FROM THE EXECUTIVE AND GENERAL MEETINGS OF THE 19TH REUNION." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- In the last issue I said I would be in my new office and would have looked up and different subjects that we have asked for articles on, and print them in this issue. Well, I was partly right. I did get the office built in the garage but, for what-ever reason, I haven't gotten to the past issues to check on subject material. IT WILL BE IN THE MAY ISSUE. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- It seems as though everyone is asking for money these days, and NWSA is right in their pitching. Jim Stone has an article asking for a small donation to pay for the new computer the association just purchased for the Secretary/Treasurer. Jim mentioned in this issue that these donations are tax deductible. President Roby mentioned in his article that, due to low interest rates, we might be limited in our giving of scholarships this year. Seems to me that since the computer has already been purchased, that any moneys donated to the computer fund could possible be trans- ferred to the Scholarship Fund. I will be mailing 750 copies of this Aerograph. My math isn't too good but if each of us donated $10/year (Tax Deductible) to the scholarship fund, we could really make some young folks very happy. I can't re- member the last time I made a New Years Resolution, but I will remember this one: To donate at least $10/year to the Scholarship Fund. HOW ABOUT YOU??? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Keep those articles coming folks. If they don't make the next issue, they will show up in later ones. I don't throw any away. I am restricted by the number of pages in the Aerograph. The number of pages MUST be divisible by FOUR. I am limited to what I can print in each issue depending on the &size of the articles that I receive. PUBLICATION INFORMATION: The AEROGRAPH is published quarterly in February, May, August, and November by the Naval Weather Service Association. Contributions must be received not later than the 15th of January, April, July, and October by the Editor, Bill Bowers, 725 Prado Drive, Lady Lake, FL 32159. Phone Number: 904-750-2970. Articles and letters can be submitted in any format, typed or handwritten. If you have a PC please submit info on 51/4 inch double sided, double density diskettes. This combined with the Chargers disappointing loss to Miami was not an encouraging start for 1993. However, it will get better. During the past quarter, it was found necessary to purchase a new computer. Consultations with Sam Huston, Don Cruse, Jerry Struck, Jim Stone, Bill Bowers, and Moon Mullen led to a decision that the old computer was worn out and a replacement was required. The cost of a suitable re-placement was determined to be $2000.00. Don Cruse suggested that this amount be taken from the Museum Fund since this fund is considerably in excess of the amount that may be required. This was agreed upon and Jim Stone was authorized to purchase a computer. For those interested, the specifications of the computer purchased are as follows: 1) Duracom 486/33 2) MB RAM, 212 MB HARD DRIVE 3) 51/4" & 31/2" FLOPPY DRIVES 4) TWO SPARE DRIVE DRAWERS 5) TRIPPLITE VOLTAGE PROTECTOR Jim advises me that the computer is installed and is operating satisfactorily. The old computer has been shipped to Jerry Struck for salvage operations. I want to thank all concerned for their help in this matter. There have been some interesting responses to the proposed NWSA name change. This will be one of the main items to be resolved at the membership meeting in Silverdale. In an effort to save time, it would be appreciated if each chapter could formulate a consolidated proposal, as de-sired by their members, to present when this matter comes up for discussion. As a matter of interest, I noted that Frank Baillie - in the reunion notices in the January issue of the Retired Officer Magazine - used the name "Navy and Marine Naval Weather Service Association". I wonder if there still are "Marine" weather personnel? Also, how Marine personnel were absorbed into the Oceanography Command? The question as to the amount of money to be awarded for Scholarships will be an important issue to be determined by the Executive Board. Interest rates are low, resulting in limited funds being available for awards. We have asked for donations for a computer fund. However, I would rather see donations to the scholarship fund where they are badly needed. It is time to make travel arrangements and to send in your hotel reservations. Fred Olson and Frank Baillie report all goes well and that it looks as if they might have a full hotel. THINK SILVERDALE SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION The time is drawing nigh to get your nominations to the secretary/treasurer for this year's Scholarship Program. All nominations must be received by JIM STONE not later than May 1, 1993. If you have any questions about the NWSA Scholarship Program, contact your nearest NWSA Chapter President, a current NWSA Officer, a member of the Scholarship Committee, or the AEROGRAPH Editor. They have all been provided a copy of the NWSA Scholarship SOP and applications for submitting nominees. You have been doing a great job in submitting excellent nominees for the committee to select from. Keep those recommendations coming. FROM THE SECRETARY/TREASURER'S DESK Hope you all had a joyous Christmas and I send best wishes for a prosperous and healthy New Year. I have been working on the “B” list and have found that there are about 35 possible duplications between the Active and Non-member sections. I have been able to positively identify several of them and have deleted the duplicates and will continue to work on the others. I know that some of you check this and have sent me information concerning these lists. This input is very much appreciated. When the labels were prepared for the November Aerograph, I came up with three with no address who are still on the member list. They are MRS. LANA LEE FAIRHURST, AGC THOMAS C. & LINDA K. FERELLI, USN, and AGC PHILIP HALL, USN RET. If anyone has any information about these people, please let me know so I can get them back on the mailing list. It is fast approaching the time to get those scholarship applications in. Remember, they must be sent to the Secretary/Treasurer first for verification of sponsor's membership status. There have been some people asking if I have Prodigy. No, I do not have it yet, but am considering it.
