(föräldraledig) En annan säregen regissör som vi lyfter fram Christopher Mair, marknadsansvarig är Philippe Garrel, fransmannen som slog igenom under den nya vågen men Dracula Mysteriet som färdades vid dess sida snarare än att vara en del av den. I samarbete MASKINISTER FILMHUSET med Franska Filmfestivalen visar vi sju filmer, de flesta aldrig tidigare Ivar Andersson Janine Andersson-Lycksell visade i Sverige. Thomas Berg Om David Lynch känns extra aktuell denna vår så är Marilyn Monroe Mikael Hessel Carlsson Mia Brännström: Danial . alltid aktuell. En av filmhistoriens allra största ikoner som ofta reduceras till Rebecka Holmström bildskönt kuttersmycke, men vars talang, både gällande skådespeleri och sång, det inte borde finnas någon tvekan om. Hon samarbetade också med MASKINISTER VICTORIA några av sin tids främsta filmare som Howard Hawks, John Huston, Billy Martin Håkansson Richard Letterborn Wilder, Joseph L. Mankiewicz och Fritz Lang, och vi vill visa upp hennes breda register med en serie filmer bestående av komedier, musikaler och FORMGIVARE dramer. Finney began a career in ministry that was to have far- reaching implications for the religious as well as the civil life of the people of the United States. In July of that year he was ordained by the Presbytery of St. Lawrence, and assigned as a missionary to the little towns of Evans Mills and Antwerp in Jefferson County, New York. Rebellion” School of Black Filmmakers JACQUELINE STEWART Artists always think we’re in danger. —Varnette Honeywood in Varnette’s World: A Study of a Young Artist (dir. Carroll Parrott Blue, 1980) It is not called “show art,” we are frequently reminded, but “show business.” Artists everywhere have struggled with the complex relations that obtain between creative expression, material necessity, and the market. But for artists working in the entertainment capital of the world, the stakes would seem to be especially high either to reject the aesthetic and business models exemplified by Hollywood or to assimilate them. For Los Angeles–based artists who are black, furthermore, the complex legacy of black performance (so aggressively confined to modes aimed at pleasing white audiences) complicates efforts to be taken seriously as creative agents and to develop affirming creative practices that are financially sustainable, let alone autonomous. This essay describes some of the ways in which a group of emerging black artists in Los Angeles in the 1970s navigated the show/art/business divides while working in Hollywood’s own medium of film. These filmmakers generated a body of work that reflects and reflects upon the ongoing difficulties of maintaining black creative voices in L.A.’s particular political and industrial climates. In developing their own cinematic voices in an academic environment outside of the dominant film industry, they posited that black creativity is not frivolous or secondary to political change but fundamental to any attempt to restore and preserve the well- being of black individuals and communities.

Accession: 92-09-247 ; 247-1992 Organizational History: As the historiography of the civil rights movement has shifted from analysis of broad themes and events to the study of the grassroots level, the significance of the records of groups such as the Non-Partisan Voters League has increased. Scholars are now focusing on the local dimensions of the post-1965 period, when strategies shifted and civil rights organizations turned to a variety of issues that differed from the targets of the 1950s and early 1960s. While scholars have focused on activities in Birmingham and Montgomery, this collection opens a wider study into the activities of another Alabama city, one with a unique ethnic mix as well as a unionized work force that rivaled that of Birmingham. The Non-Partisan Voters League was organized in Mobile, Alabama, in 1956, the same year that the attorney general of the State of Alabama and the state court system forced the NAACP to cease all operations in the state. The League carried on the local civil rights struggle in Mobile during the eight years that the NAACP was outlawed and continued to function long after the injunction was overturned. The records in this collection span thirty years (1956-1987), with the bulk of the materials between 1961 and 1975.
