Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest (SC) Information In June 2018, on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Robert Deeley issued “Norms for Sunday Celebrations in the Absence of a Priest (SC) in the Diocese of Portland, Maine” as a pastoral solution to sustaining local church communities. The norms specify the conditions when the bishop will grant permission for a Sunday Celebration that incorporates the Liturgy of the Word with the distribution of holy Communion because a priest is unavailable to offer the Mass on a weekend.
