  • Our Resource Is the Gospel, and Our Aim Is Simple;
    Bolingbroke Deanery GGr raappeeVViinnee MAY 2016 ISSUE 479 • Mission Statement The Diocese of Lincoln is called by God to faithful worship, confident discipleship and joyful service. • Vision Statement To be a healthy, vibrant and sustainable church, transforming lives in Greater Lincolnshire 50p 1 Bishop’s Letter Dear Friends, Many of us will have experienced moments of awful isolation in our lives, or of panic, or of sheer joy. The range of situations, and of emotions, to which we can be exposed is huge. These things help to form the richness of human living. But in themselves they can sometimes be immensely difficult to handle. Jesus’ promise was to be with his friends. Although they experienced the crushing sadness of his death, and the huge sense of betrayal that most of them felt in terms of their own abandonment of him, they also experienced the joy of his resurrection and the happiness of new times spent with him. They would naturally have understood that his promise to ‘be with them’ meant that he would not physically leave them. However, what Jesus meant when he said that they would not be left on their own was that the Holy Spirit would always be with them. It is the Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity, that we celebrate during the month of May. Jesus is taken from us, body and all, but the Holy Spirit is poured out for us and on to us. The Feast of the Holy Spirit is Pentecost. It happens at the end of Eastertide, and thus marks the very last transition that began weeks before when, on Ash Wednesday, we entered the wilderness in preparation for Holy Week and Eastertide to come.

  • Steeping River Community Update March 2020
    Steeping River Community Update March 2020 This newsletter provides an update on the work of the Steeping River Catchment Steering Group and other activities that help manage flood risk in the catchment. Catchment Action Plan community event A further community event is taking place, kindly hosted again by Batemans Brewery, to launch a new partnership Catchment Action Plan: Saturday 4 April, 11am to 3pm The Plan will identify long term, sustainable actions that could reduce the risk of flooding from the river. It contains a range of options under four themes: 1. Improving flow through the system 2. A resilient community and infrastructure 3. Strengthening and maintaining defences 4. Flood water storage Please do help us raise awareness of the event. We hope to see you there. Severe Flood Warnings issued for Wainfleet What happened on Sunday 16 February? Four Severe Flood Warnings - the EA’s highest level of warning meaning danger to life - were issued in the Wainfleet All Saints, Wainfleet St Mary, Croft and Thorpe St Peters areas for the first time at 11pm on Sunday 16 February. Flood Warnings had been issued earlier at 7.15pm telling people ‘immediate action required’ – see front cover picture and next page for examples. This is because river levels were forecast to go higher than in June last year, meaning overtopping was likely and properties would be affected. More rain fell than forecast, which increased the risk of overtopping or a breach. This is the reason for issuing the Severe Flood Warnings. These were lifted at 5.25am on Monday after the peak – which was just short of the recorded level in June - had passed.

  • East Lindsey Local Plan Alteration 1999 Chapter 1 - 1
    Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION TO THE EAST LINDSEY LOCAL PLAN ALTERATION 1999 The Local Plan has the following main aims:- x to translate the broad policies of the Structure Plan into specific planning policies and proposals relevant to the East Lindsey District. It will show these on a Proposals Map with inset maps as necessary x to make policies against which all planning applications will be judged; x to direct and control the development and use of land; (to control development so that it is in the best interests of the public and the environment and also to highlight and promote the type of development which would benefit the District from a social, economic or environmental point of view. In particular, the Plan aims to emphasise the economic growth potential of the District); and x to bring local planning issues to the public's attention. East Lindsey Local Plan Alteration 1999 Chapter 1 - 1 Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION Page The Aims of the Plan 3 How The Policies Have Been Formed 4 The Format of the Plan 5 The Monitoring, Review and Implementation of the Plan 5 East Lindsey Local Plan Alteration 1999 Chapter 1 - 2 INTRODUCTION TO THE EAST LINDSEY LOCAL PLAN 1.1. The East Lindsey Local Plan is the first statutory Local Plan to cover the whole of the District. It has updated, and takes over from all previous formal and informal Local Plans, Village Plans and Village Development Guidelines. It complements the Lincolnshire County Structure Plan but differs from it in quite a significant way. The Structure Plan deals with broad strategic issues and its generally-worded policies do not relate to particular sites.

  • North East Lincolnshire's Historic Settlement Archaeological
    North East Lincolnshire’s Historic Settlement Archaeological Consultation Areas Introduction This document is intended to act as an explanation of the archaeological consultation areas based upon historic settlement cores used within the planning system. There are 33 known and located historic settlements within the modern Borough, all of which will have some form of archaeological deposit still present. However in some areas disturbance by modern development, along with there being little land left to build on, means that it is unlikely that any deposits of significance will be disturbed during normal building works. Both the settlement areas, or cores, are shown in map format along with the areas where the archaeological officer will be consulted on planning applications. These settlements date back to at least the medieval period (11th to 16th centuries) although most have earlier origins. They will all contain archaeological deposits of some kind which are important for understanding the growth and development of the towns and villages of the area, as well as feeding into regional and national data. Brief etymological, geographical, geological and morphological descriptions are given for each parish and the settlements within them where they are known. This information is based upon various sources listed at the end of this document. A very brief description of the archaeological character of each settlement is then given, based upon prior work in the settlement itself, or by comparison with similar settlements if little or no work has been carried out in the settlement itself. Methodology Mapping - The areas of known settlement were mapped as MapInfo Tab files using the Ordnance Survey 1st edition maps of 1887-9 as a basis.
