The top price per kilo was for a 17 month old lim x from Garrowby Estate Farms weighing 595kgs and selling for 236.5ppk (£1407) to R Pearson of Bradford. The top price per head was for a 18 month old BA x from TD Nichols of Stape weighing 710kgs £1544 (217.5ppk) to R Pearson. Another Lim x from the same home sold for 235.5ppk (£1483). Lim x from M Sunley topped at 232.5ppk. Longhorn bulls from J Backhouse reached 190.5ppk and well fed Hereford bulls from MT Bulmer of Salton topped at 212.5ppk (£1508). The top price per kilo was for a lim x from Garrowby Estate Farms weighing 560kgs and selling for 256.5ppk (£1436) to Radford’s Butchers of Sleights. Other steers to sell well included Lim and BB x from Graham Bell and Sons which topped at 228.5ppk. Lim x from EE Wilkinson and Son reached 239.5ppk and £1425. 22 HEIFERS Heifers still remain in high demand with plenty of buyers for the best grading sorts. The top price per kilo was for a 17 month old Lim x from J & R Waind of Brawby weighing 535kgs and selling for 268.5ppk (£1436). All six lim and BB x from Brawby averaged 265.5ppk (£1462). Three excellent lim and BA x from DR Jackson and Sons topped at 267.5ppk (£1475). Lim and BA x from CF Beal topped at 251.5ppk and £1509. Lim x from JH Tennant topped at 231.5ppk. 14 month old lim x from E, DJ & P Neson topped at 221.5ppk. BB x from TD Nichols topped at 252.5ppk (£1552). 10 OTM CATTLE Less cows forward this week with a good trade for better sorts but less demand this week for cows with too much fat or too lean. 4 OTM cattle (over 30 months and under 72 months of age) A 64 month old BB x from KN Hurst of Salton reached 179.5ppk (£1283). A 33 month old Lim x from JW Colling and Sons sold for 150.5ppk. 6 Older cull cows (over 72 months old) A 140 month old Lim x from K N Hurst sold for 175.5ppk (£1272). Lim x from DJ Windress sold for 155.5ppk (£1135) and 158.5ppk (£1133). 542 LAMBS A better trade in the sheep department this Tuesday with certainly more demand for all types and weights. The top price per kilo was for a pen of nine Texel x from S Wildridge of Nafferton weighing 45kgs and selling for 193ppk (£87) to BW and DJ Glaves and Sons Ltd of Brompton. The top price per head was for three pens of Texel x from JH Tennant Ltd weighing 53, 51 and 51kgs and all selling for £90. Also to sell for £90 was a pen of eight Texel x from JWE and P Robson of Lockton weighing 50kgs. A run of well finished lambs from Arsenius Monastery of Langdale End topped at £88 for 47kgs and £79.50 for 44kgs. Top price from M & P Cass STORES – MARKET REPORT FRIDAY 29th SEPTEMBER ANNUAL MICHAELMAS SHOW AND SALE OF BREEDING SHEEP The Michaelmas breeding sheep sale was held for the first time on a Friday which proved to be a great success with many buyers at the ring side in all departments. In particular the breeding Rams were very much in demand. The judge for the day Mr Raymond Twiddle OBE of Knapton had the difficult task of placing the show classes and awarded the trophies in the various classes to the following: The R Farnell Memorial Trophy for the champion Suffolk Ram in the show was awarded MT Bulmer, Salton which was later sold to Paul Lockey, Hackness for 620 guineas. The WA Cundall Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Champion Texel Ram in the show was awarded to H. Bulmer, Salton which was later sold to ML Dawson, Crayke for 750 guineas. The Boulton & Cooper Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the champion Charollais Ram in the show was awarded to C.W.
