BROOKSVILLE AUTOCROSS OCTOBER 2017 By Danny Shields Autocross action resumed at the Brooks- ville Airport on Saturday, October 14. The planned summer break was extended by the cancellation of the September 10 and October 8 events, so some drivers had not competed since the May 5 event. The challenging Mark Lasota-designed course offered drivers the chance to knock the rust off their skills and the crust off their tire treads. The possibility of afternoon rain had been in the forecast, but everyone had the chance for four runs in the morning and four more in the afternoon, all in breezy, sunny weather. Along with several autocross newcomers, the event included a broad range of Porsche com- petitors and an assortment of non-Porsches. The closest battle of the day was for overall do this again!) All attendees must register no later than November 30 to meet airport requirements. The December event was originally planned as the second phase of the Porsche-BMW Challenge competition, but changes within the BMW club prevented that group from hosting an event, so the Challenge Cup will not be contested this year.
