The RedHawks took control of the game with a six-run bottom of the third. Manuel Boscan’s sacrifice fly drove in the first run of the game. Then with two outs, Correlle Prime added an RBI single, Jordan George hit a three-run home run, and Dylan Kelly chipped in an RBI single. Winnipeg got on the board in the top of the sixth when Kyle Martin doubled home Max Murphy. Fargo-Moorhead re-extended the lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single from Prime. Raul Navarro pulled the Goldeyes within 9-3 in the top of the eighth with a two-run single before the RedHawks hit back-to-back sacrifice flies in the bottom of the inning. Joey Gonzalez started for Winnipeg and took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits in 6.0+ innings. Gonzalez walked two and struck out four. ALL-TIME AGAINST THE REDHAWKS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 175-197 all-time against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, including a 79-105 record in road games, and an 86-110 record at Newman Outdoor Field. The Goldeyes are 90-115 all-time at Newman Outdoor Field against all opponents. The RedHawks are celebrating their 25 th anniversary in 2021, and have been one of independent baseball’s elite franchises since beginning play in 1996. The RedHawks won a Northern League record five championships (1998, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2010) before joining the American Association in 2011 along with the Goldeyes, Gary SouthShore RailCats, and Kansas City T-Bones. Fargo-Moorhead won the American Association North Division in 2012 and 2013, and became the first team in league history to win 60-plus games in back-to-back seasons (65 wins in 2012, 62 wins in 2013). The 65 wins tied a then-American Association record, which has since been surpassed five times. The Goldeyes and RedHawks have clashed in the postseason 10 times, with the most recent meeting coming in the 2012 American Association Division Series. Former RedHawks’ star Chris Coste was named interim manager in June of 2020, and returns in a full-time role for his second season as Fargo’s skipper. Coste was a member of the RedHawks’ 1998 Northern League championship club before spending four seasons in the Major Leagues. Coste was a key member of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 2008 World Series championship team. During their 15 years in the Northern League, the RedHawks qualified for the postseason 14 times, made seven trips to the Northern League Championship Series, and never finished with a regular season winning percentage below .558. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the RedHawks hosted the Goldeyes for the majority of the season at Newman Outdoor Field where Winnipeg played 33 of their 60 games. SERIES MATCHUP: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 15-21, in sixth place in the American Association North Division, and 9.0 games behind the Milwaukee Milkmen. The Goldeyes just won two of three against the Houston Apollos at The Ballpark at Jackson. The Goldeyes are third in the American Association in hitting (.286), 11th in pitching (6.37), and fourth in fielding (.981). The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are 22-17, in third place in the North, and 3.5 games behind the Milkmen. The RedHawks were just swept in a three-game series by the Milkmen at Franklin Field. The RedHawks are second in the league in batting (.296), second in pitching (4.27), and second in defence (.983). This is the first of four head-to-head series this season between Winnipeg and Fargo-Moorhead. The Goldeyes were 13-11 against the RedHawks in 2020. TONIGHT’S STARTERS: The Goldeyes go with rookie PROJECTE D UPCOMING PITCHING MATCHUPS right-hander Mike Webb who is 0-0 with a 6.52 ERA in four 7/1 at FAR: TBA vs. TBA starts and one relief appearance. Webb took a no-decision 7/2 at GAR: TBA vs. TBA vs. Houston last Friday, allowing five earned runs on six 7/3 at GAR: TBA vs. TBA hits over 4.2 innings. Webb was 7-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 14 starts at the University of Rhode Island (Kingston, Rhode Island) this past spring as a sixth-year senior. Webb struck out 68 and walked only 22 in 89.0 innings for the Rams. Webb is a graduate student at the University of Rhode Island, and was granted an extra season of eligibility as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Webb pitched at Rhode Island College (Providence, Rhode Island) from 2017-20, compiling an 11-7 record with four saves and a 3.50 ERA for the Anchormen in 154.1 innings over 33 appearances, 22 of them as a starting pitcher. Webb played his true freshman season at Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vermont) where he made three appearances before taking a medical redshirt. Tonight will be Webb’s first career appearance against Fargo-Moorhead, as well as his first career appearance at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks go with right-hander Bret Helton who is 3-2 with a 6.43 ERA in seven starts this season. Helton took a no-decision at Milwaukee last Friday, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings. Helton walked two and struck out four. The Milkmen won the game 9-7. Helton has pitched 5.0 innings or more in six of his seven starts this season. Helton was 4-3 with a 3.46 ERA for the RedHawks in 2020 in three starts and 14 relief appearances. In 2019, Helton was 6-7 with a 4.40 ERA for the RedHawks in 17 starts, and helped Fargo-Moorhead reach the American Association playoffs. Helton was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth round in 2015 out of the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, Utah). Helton served as a two-way player for the Utes before reaching the Double-A level in the Pirates’ organization in 2018. Helton is in his seventh season of professional baseball, and is 37-36 lifetime with one save and a 4.48 ERA in 146 games, 82 of them as a starting pitcher. Helton is 3-3 with one save and a 7.11 ERA in three starts and seven relief appearances in his career against Winnipeg. Helton is 7-5 with a 2.99 ERA in 14 starts and seven relief appearances in his career at Newman Outdoor Field. TENNESSEE BOUND: Due to the ongoing closure of the Canada/US border, the Winnipeg Goldeyes have partnered with the Jackson Generals professional baseball club to host Winnipeg at The Ballpark at Jackson to begin the 2021 season. The Generals were a Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, and Arizona Diamondbacks from 1998-2019. The franchise hosted the Southern League All-Star Game on two occasions, and won four Southern League championships. The Generals are located in Jackson, Tennessee, which is 208 kilometres southwest of Nashville and 140 kilometres northeast of Memphis. TRIPLE THREAT: Goldeyes’ infielder Kevin Lachance tied a franchise single-game record with two triples on June 16 th at Cleburne. The record was last accomplished by Josh Romanski on July 2 nd , 2016 vs. Sioux Falls. DOUBLE DOWN: Following postponements on June 8 th and 9 th , the Winnipeg Goldeyes now have 10 double headers that have either been played or remain on their 2021 schedule. The 10 double headers would set a franchise record. The Goldeyes played nine double headers during the 2009 season. The pandemic-shortened 2020 season ranks next with seven double headers. EYES ON THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION: Since the start of training camp on May 6 th , the American Association has sold the contracts of 44 players to Major League organizations. The Goldeyes have had four players picked up since then, including RHP Ryan Dull (Seattle Mariners), RHP Josh Lucas (Arizona Diamondbacks), IF Alexis Pantoja (Arizona Diamondbacks), and RHP Cory Thompson (St. Louis Cardinals). AMERICAN ASSOCIATION BACK TO FULL STRENGTH: The American Association returns to 12 teams and a 100-game schedule in 2021. The league is split into two divisions, with the top two regular season winning percentages from each division qualifying for the postseason. ROSTER RULES RETURN, ADJUSTED: After waiving all classification restrictions in 2020, the American Association returns to its traditional roster rules in 2021. Teams may carry up to 11 players classified as LS-4. Seven of those 11 may be LS-5 or higher, while five of them may be classified as veterans. Teams must carry at least five classified rookies on a full, 25-man roster (four rookies if carrying 22 players, or three rookies if carrying 21 players). The American Association recently announced that teams may carry up to 25 players for the entire 2021 season, up from 23 players in previous years. GOLDEYES ENTER 28th SEASON: The Winnipeg Goldeyes enter their 28th season in 2021.

After a close to two-hour delay due to storms in the Fargo area, the game began just before 9pm local time, and it was worth the wait. The Goldeyes fell behind early, but a five-run fifth inning blew the game wide open for the Winnipeg, who won the season series against the North Division-leading RedHawks 7-5. Fargo got on the board first when Correlle Prime hit a two-out, two-run double off of Goldeyes starter Kevin Hilton to score Devan Ahart and Chris Jacobs to take an early 2-0 lead. Winnipeg earned a run back in the top of the second. With runners on first and second, Adrian Marin smacked an RBI single that brought home Dominic Ficociello from second, cutting the lead to 2-1.
