The Creighton baseball team returned to the 1999 NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992. The Bluejays finished second in the 1999 MVC Tournament and were awarded with an at-large bid to the 1999 NCAA Regional in South Bend, Ind. Creighton went 38-25 over- all and took third place in the Missouri Valley Conference with an 18-13 mark. Head Coach earned “Coach-of-the-Year” for the first time in his career. The Bluejays were eliminated by host Notre Dame (8-1) and Michigan (13-5). The 38-win season was the most vic- tories by a Dahm-led team since he took over the Creighton program in 1994. Bluejay Scott Allen received all-regional team honors. The Bluejays had six players earn All-MVC honors. Peyton Lewis was recognized as Pitcher and Newcomer- of-the-Year. He had a .339 batting average with 79 hits, 55 runs and 76 RBI. Lewis also was 10-1 as a pitcher with a 3.30 ERA in 17 appearances and 103.2 innings pitched. Lewis was an NAIA transfer from Midland Lutheran College who graduated and still had a year of eligibility left. He was the 1998 Player-of-the-Year in the Nebraska and

Iowa Athletic Conference at MLC. Lewis earned NCBWA Chris Hinrichs Second Team All-American and Louisville Slugger All- Ryan Gripp, Vince Pietro, Scott Yahraus, Dan Gooris and American second team honors in 1999 for the Bluejays. Dan Lawler received MVC honors as well. Gripp was a first-team selection at third base, Pietro earned second- team honors at second base, Yahraus was a second team selection as pitcher, Gooris earned honorable-mention honors as a pitcher and Lawler was selected honorable - mention at first base. Gripp earned ABCA All-American first team honors and Yahraus was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
