So there has been intense research on various plant resources to develop novel anticancer agents against breast cancer.Herbal medicine is one of the most commonly used complementary and alternative therapies (CAM) by people with cancer. Some studies have shown that as many as 6 out of every 10 people with cancer (60%) use herbal remedies alongside conventional cancer treatments. There are many different types of herbal medicines and some of them overlap with foods. Commonly used plants include Echinacea, St John’s Wort, green tea and ginger. From the past several years, medicinal plants have been proved to be an important natural source for cancer therapy with fewer side effects. There are many natural cytotoxic drugs available, which needs further improvement and development of new drugs. An attempt has been made to review some medicinal plants used for the prevention and treatment of cancer. This article considers a few medicinal plants used anticancer activity against breast cancer cell line(MCF- 7). It will be helpful to explore the medicinal value of plants and for new drug discovery from them for the researchers and scientists around the globe. Isolasi Senyawa Triterpenoid dari Ekstrak Aseton Daun Garcinia celebica L dan Uji Aktivitas Antikanker Payudara (MCF-7). Dibimbing oleh SRI HARTATI dan SITI NURBAYTI. Tumbuhan Garcinia celebica merupakan salah satu dari sekitar 450 spesies Garcinia yang mengandung senyawa triterpenoid, depsidon, xanton, dan benzofenon yang berpotensi sebagai terapi kanker. Uji pendahuluan antikanker payudara (MCF-7) terhadap ekstrak aseton daun G .celebica telah dilakukan dengan nilai aktivitas sebesar 94,36% dalam konsentrasi 200 µg/mL dan 83,12% dalam konsentrasi 50 µg/mL. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi struktur metabolit sekunder dari ekstrak aseton daun G. celebica serta aktivitas antikankernya. Tahapan yang dilakukan adalah fraksinasi menggunakan metode kromatografi, identifikasi struktur dengan spektroskopi UV- Vis, FTIR, LCMS, dan NMR serta uji aktivitas antikanker payudara (MCF-7) dengan metode MTT assays. GC-2 yang diperoleh berupa gum putih sebanyak 20 mg dari 47,7 g ekstrak kasar. Hasil analisis UV-Vis menunjukkan adanya gugus kromofor C=C (λmax 222 nm) dan C=O (λmax 272 nm). -

B. Rameshkumar who took Garcinia imberti as a subject for his doctoral studies. It gives me all the more pleasure and gratification to see that he continued with his studies on Garcinia species of the Western Ghats along with his students and colleagues. Unlike many other doctoral students, he kept alive his passion for the studies on Garcinia and the present book is the outcome of his dedicated efforts during the last one and a half decades. Pursuit of science is a passion and unravelling the subtleties of nature is an ecstasy which fulfils the inner urge for quest and discovery. The genus Garcinia is important by virtue of their reputation in traditional medicines, established pharmacological activities, diversity in chemical structures and potential nutritional properties. Despite recent progress in phytochemical and pharmacological studies on Garcinia species world over, significant gaps still exist concerning the exploration of the vast data on phytochemical diversity of Garcinia species. -

Calamus densiflorus, new record, Singapore INTRODUCTION Calamus densiflorus Becc. is a clustering rattan palm of lowland forest and was Presumed Nationally Extinct in Singapore (Tan et al., 2008; Chong et al., 2009). This paper reports its rediscovery in the Rifle Range Road area in 2016 and reassigns it status in Singapore to “Critically Endangered” according to the categories defined in The Singapore Red Data Book (Davison et al., 2008). Description. Calamus densiflorus is a dioecious clustering rattan palm, climbing to 40 m tall (Fig. 1, p. 2). It has stems enclosed in bright yellowish green sheaths up to 4 cm wide. The spines are hairy, dense and slightly reflexed (Fig. 1, p. 2), with swollen bases. The knee of the sheath is prominent and the flagellum is up to 3 m long. The leaf is ecirrate, and without a petiole in mature specimens. The leaves are arcuate, about 1 m long with regularly arranged leaflets that are bristly on both margins. The male inflorescence has slightly recurved rachillae and is branched to 3 orders (Fig. -

Guttiferae diversity is found across the Indonesian archipelago. In order to elucidate the genetic diversity of mangosteen and its relatives, morphological and molecular analyses were conducted. The objectives for this study were: (1) to determine the relationships between mangosteen and its relatives; and (2) to confirm the true diversity of allotetraploid mangosteen relatives G. mangostana. Analysis was conducted using morphological and inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) between 19 accessions of G. mangostana and their close relatives revealed. Diversity analysis was based on 212 polymorphic characters and 3 groups were formed. Group A consisted of Garcinia mangostana, Garcinia malaccensis, Garcinia celebica, Garcinia hombroniana and Garcinia porrecta; group B comprised Garcinia forbesii and Garcinia subellptica; and group C solely with Calophyllum inophyllum... The genetic similarity of Garcinia mangostana, Garcinia malaccensis and Garcinia celebica were 0.78 and 0.63. The epidermis cell observations around stomata cells on the lower surface of leaves revealed that Garcinia mangostana has the intermediate shape between Garcinia celebica and Garcinia malaccensis. -

Sebagian besar Garcinia tersebar dan tumbuh di dataran rendah dan hanya sedikit yang tumbuh di dataran tinggi. Tercatat sekitar seperlima dari jumlah Garcinia di Indonesia merupakan jenis Garcinia dataran tinggi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai tahap awal untuk mengetahui karakteristik morfologi dan anatomi daun koleksi Garcinia spp. dataran tinggi di Kebun Raya Cibodas (KRC). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah observasi langsung di lapangan, pengamatan di laboratorium, dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat sepuluh jenis Garcinia koleksi KRC dari kegiatan eksplorasi di Indonesia yang diamati. Jenis tersebut adalah G. beccarii, G. burkillii, G. celebica, G. dulcis, G. havilandii, G. horsfieldiana, G. lateriflora, G. latissima, G. Mangostana, dan G. rostrata. Karakter morfologi dan anatomi pada daun Garcinia berbeda pada tiap jenisnya. Karakter morfologi berbeda pada circumscriptio, morfometri, dan arsitektur internal daun serta memiliki tipe stomata paracytic dan anomocytic. -

Number of species and density of trees with more than 10 cm in diameter was 86 species and 698 trees/ha, while small tree of 2-10 cm in diameter was 100 species and 5043 trees/ha, respectively. The most abundant trees were Blumeodendron elatriospermum (47 trees/ha), Cyatocalyx biovulatus (39 trees/ha), Blumeodendron tokbrai (32 trees/ha), Lithocarpus encleisacarpus (30 trees/ha) and Syzygium chlorantha (30 trees/ha) with greater number of individual at smaller diameter classes. The most diverse families are Euphorbiaceae, Annonaceae and Dipterocarpaceae represented mostly by small-sized trees ranging between diameter 2-30 cm and rarely exceeding dbh 60 cm. Introduction Most of the peat swamp forest around Sambas Regency; West Kalimantan has been disturbed due to land conversion and logging. Some of the disturbed peat swamp areas were drained by artificial canals and have been converted into agricultural land, such as for rubber, coffee, pineapple and other fruits plants. -
