GANT FOOTWEAR COLLECTION Fall/Winter 2021 GANT FOOTWEAR COLLECTION Fall/Winter 2021 THE GANT BRAND GANT is a brand born on the American East Coast and raised in Europe, built on innovation and quality with a strong focus on shirtmaking. The buzz on the university campuses in the 1950s helped propel our brand forward to become the “Original American Lifestyle Brand”, still a cornerstone for GANT today. Over the years we’ve expanded and developed globally, and so has our positioning. Offering an aspirational and attainable lifestyle, GANT is the original in American sportswear with European sophistication. GANT FOOTWEAR COLLECTION The footwear collection takes modern sportswear to a smart looking level and dresses into society. For the first part of FW21 we will bring royal influences to the streets: a collection that will play with the classics and rewrite the rules and tradition. In the second part of FW21 we move into a ‘70s-inspired theme, a time that resonates well with today’s freedom, equality and sustainability movements, making the ‘70s a continued influence on fashion for the future. A wide range of sneaker value the heritage of GANT and mix newness with classics. We focus on preppy colors, natural brown tones, solid black and iconic white. We are breathing new life into our basics, because what would American sportswear be without its timeless styles? Volume sneaker come in fresh colors and styles as well a classic Chelsea boots with sleek silhouettes. Younger and braver streetwear consumers enjoy comfort and authenticity with chunky sneakers, new cupsoles and retro runners inspired by the ‘90s in multi color combinations. New silhouettes and sportier lines show our new unisex concept. Trendy and playful customers will love our inspiration from the ‘70s with vintage moccasins, loafers, ballerinas with squared toe and a new GANT ‘70s American boot with stacked mid heel or high shaft. The still strong outdoor trend presents sneaker with a rugged winter options, Chelsea and winter boots with thicker outsoles in high-quality leathers, oily suedes and soft-surfaced flannel. For this season we added a new function to the collection: we have a waterproofed style for men and women. Branding is an important design feature and used in a new and playful way. We take the inspiration from GANT’s history and mix archive graphics with details from our ‘80s and ‘90s.     When the war ended in 1945, Europe turned to the task of rebuilding, and Americans once again looked west for inspiration. The swagger of the cowboy fitted the victorious mood of the country. Dude ranches were now a destination for even the middle class. Hopalong Cassidy and the puppet cowboy Howdy Doody kept children glued to their televisions, and Nashville’s country music industry produced one ‘rhinestone cowboy’ after another. Westerns were also one of the most popular film genres. As the movie director Dore Schary noted, ‘the American movie screen was dominated by strong, rugged males – the “one punch, one [gun] shot variety”.’43 In this milieu, cowboy boots became increasingly glamorous. Exagger- atedly pointed toes, high-keyed coloured leathers, elaborate appliqué and even actual rhinestone embellishments were not considered excessive. This period has been called the golden age of cowboy boots, and the artistry and imagination expressed in late 1940s and 1950s boot-making is staggering. The cowboy boot was becoming part of costume, a means of dressing up, of playing type. This point was made clear by the popularity of dress-up cowboy clothes, including boots, for children. Indeed, this transformation into costume was becoming the fate of many boots in fashion. Although most boot styles fell out of fashion in the 1950s, in the immediate post-war period a particular form of military footwear did pass into men’s stylish casual dress: the chukka boot, said to have come from India, and its variant, the desert boot. Designed as a low ankle boot with a two to three eyelet closure, chukkas were said to have been worn for comfort by British polo players both on and off the field in India.44 The simple desert boot was based on the traditional chukka but in Cairo during the war it was given a crepe sole and soft suede upper.
