The Local Radio Station Ownership Rule in its current form, including current numerical maximums on the number of AM/FM radio stations that one owner can own in a single market, and also including the current AM/FM subcaps, remain necessary in order to promote diversity, competition, and localism in AM/FM radio in local communities served. Importantly, the Commission should not expand its current definition of the relevant product market beyond broadcast radio stations for purposes of analyzing the Local Radio Station Ownership Rule. The Commission must not abdicate its legal obligation to promote the public interest in diversity, localism, and competition in radio broadcasting at local market levels by applying a purely competitive analysis of how the AM/FM radio industry is perceived to compete with other audio and Internet platforms for global advertising revenue.

Gholz, PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2011 In recent years, the city of Detroit’s economic struggles, including its cultural expressions, have become focal points for discussing the health of the American dream. However, this discussion has rarely strayed from the use of hackneyed factory metaphors, worn-out success-and-failure stories, and an ever-narrowing cast of characters. The result is that the common sense understanding of Detroit’s musical and cultural legacy tends to end in 1972 with the departure of Motown Records from the city to Los Angeles, if not even earlier in the aftermath of the riot / uprising of 1967. In “‘Where The Mix Is Perfect’: Voices From The Post-Motown Soundscape,” I provide an oral history of Detroit’s post-Motown aural history and in the process make available a new urban imaginary for judging the city’s wellbeing.

When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

As many stakeholders speculate on Detroit's comeback and private capital pours into select parts of the city, its most vulnerable residents continue to struggle in areas ranging from housing to education to employment. These residents, still chiefly Black and poor, remain on the margins of Detroit's spotty progress. Discourses around development and renewal continue to be shaped by political and corporate agents, community members, and the press. Currently, the sum of coverage pertaining to urban development and renewal is generally mixed and nuanced; nevertheless, mainstream media have not strayed from framing private development in the city as a markedly positive enterprise, even as some of this investment has facilitated further harm to the most socioeconomically vulnerable. This research focuses on the perspectives held by individuals a part of, or at least closely connected to, those vulnerable communities by centering Black, Detroit residents. The central inquires of this research hope to uncover what media sources Black Detroiters use to acquire news about urban development and renewal and their perceptions of that coverage. To address these questions, a quantitative survey was administered to Black undergraduate students listed as residents of Detroit at a large, Midwestern university.
