Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon for William Jefferson Dabbs, 74-year-old former Cookeville policman who died in Detroit, MI, after a long illness. L. N. Moody, Church of Christ minister, conducted the services at the Carver Funeral Home. Burial was in City Cemetery. Mr. Dabbs was an officer for 27 years before retiring. He moved to Detroit shortly after his retirement. Survivors include four sons, E. J. Dabbs, Dayton, OH, B. C. Dabbs, Akron, OH, W. H. Dabbs, and W. J. Dabbs, Jr., Detroit; three daughters, Mrs. Nettie Herod, Mrs. Gladys Knight, Detroit, Mrs. Mary Alice Dewitt, Nashville; a brother, E. J. Dabbs, Asbury, KY, and a sister, Mrs. D. NASHVILLE — Funeral services for Mr. Jim Dakouvanos, 73 ,of Cookeville, will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 2 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4905 Franklin Pike, Nashville, Tennessee. Interment will be held at 3 p.m., also on Monday, at Cookeville City Cemetery. Fr. Gregory Hohnholt will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, and from 11 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church. Jim died suddenly on Friday morning, Sept. 29, 2017, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in White County, Tennessee. Jim was born Aug. 10, 1944, in Agia Paraskevi Conitsis, Greece, to the late Yanni and Alexandra Stratsianh Dakouvanos. He attended school in Greece and served as a member of the Greek military. Jim moved to America in 1975, along with his newlywed wife, Angela. He had a lifelong passion for cooking and worked in various restaurants. He and his family operated Gondola’s Pizza House in Cookeville from 1986-2002. He opened Yanni’s Grille in Sparta in 2000, and worked together with his family to build a successful restaurant. He was a hard worker and especially enjoyed interacting with his customers. Jim was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Nashville. He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Angela Hatoupis Dakouvanos; sons and daughter in law, Alex Dakouvanos and John and Nikki Dakouvanos; grandchildren (his pride and joy) Ava and Alex Dakouvanos, all of Cookeville; three brothers and three sisters, all of Greece.
