  • Johnny Heaton, (Guitar, Bass, Banjo & Vocals)
Johnny Heaton, (Guitar, Bass, Banjo & Vocals) I work in several areas of music – live performance, production, songwriting, recording, mastering and graphic design for CD's album covers, and promotional items. My main instrument is acoustic guitar but I also play electric guitar, bass, dobro and just enough banjo, drums and percussion to be somewhat comical. I am a guitarist, performing musician, producer, songwriter and artist. I have been playing professionally since 1971 Being born and raised in Waterford, Michigan (just outside of Detroit) has had a big influence on my style and music. From the early local rock scene featuring Michigan bands like the Bob Seger System, The Amboy Dukes, and The Frost, to Motown from the beginning with Little Stevie Wonder, the Supremes and the Funk Brothers this music all left it’s impression on me. During my career, I have performed with bands that have opened shows for Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band, Spirit, Ten Years After, The Rockets, and The MC5. While living in California I played and recorded with Jeff Gold and the Travelers, Raspin Stewart and the Restless Rhythms as well as playing solo shows at places like the Troubadour, and Mommas Pajamas As a singer / songwriter I sing from the depth of my heart, and my songs tell of this incredible journey through life. And whether playing electric guitar, bass or acoustic guitar, the music has power and energy. From sensitive to insane, my approach is to support the lyrics with the power of the music. PRESIDENT | Woody Guthrie Foundation FOUNDER & DIRECTOR | Woody Guthrie Archives (1992-2013) Nora Guthrie graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 1971. Following a successful career in modern dance Nora began working with her father’s materials in 1992. Based on her intimate connection to her father’s ideas and ideals, Nora brings a refreshing interpretation of his work and a new understanding of his legacy. Her first project, in 1992, was the publication of a lost songbook of Woody’s original lyrics and illustrations, Woody’s 20 Grow Big Songs. Nora co-produced the accompanying album with her brother Arlo Guthrie, which received a Grammy nomination in the Best Children’s Album category. In 1994, Nora co-founded the Woody Guthrie Archives with Harold Leventhal and archivist Jorge Arevalo. In addition to managing the Archives and preserving her father’s personal materials and original creative works, Ms. Guthrie develops and produces new projects which continue to expand Woody Guthrie's cultural legacy. In 1996, the Woody Guthrie Archives was open for free research to scholars and students, making Woody Guthrie’s personal & professional collection available for the first time to the public. In 1996, Ms. Guthrie co-produced the first ever Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum Tribute series honoring Woody Guthrie. Main events consisted of a scholarly symposium held at Case Western Reserve University and a tribute concert in Cleveland’s famed Severance Hall.
