LECTURE I. THE HERO AS DIVINITY. ODIN. PAGANISM : SCAN^ DINAVIAN MYTHOLOGY. We have undertaken to discourse here for a little on Great Men, their manner of appearance in our world's business, how they have shaped themselves in the world's history, what ideas, men formed of them, what work they did ; —on Heroes, namely, and on their reception- and per- formance ; what I call Hero-worship and the Heroic in human affairs. Too evidently this is a large topic ; deserving quite other treatment than we can expect to give it at present. A large topic ; indeed, an illimitable one ; wide as Universal History itself. For, as I take it. Uni- versal History, the history of what man has- accomplished in this world, is at bottom the His- ! 6 Xecturcs on Ibcroes, tory of the Great Men who have worked here. They were the leaders of men, these great ones ; the modellers, patterns, and in a wide sense creators, of whatsoever the general mass of men contrived to do or to attain •, all things that we see standing accomplished in the world are properly the outer material result, the practical realization and embodiment, of Thoughts that dwelt in the Great Men sent into the world : the soul of the whole world's history, it may justly be considered, were the history of these.

  • Discography of the Mainstream Label
Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. In 1991 it was resurrected in order to reissue much of its holdings on compact disc, and in 1993, it was purchased by Sony subsidiary Legacy Records. 56000/6000 Series 56000 mono, S 6000 stereo - The Commodore Recordings 1939, 1944 - Billy Holiday [1964] Strange Fruit/She’s Funny That Way/Fine and Mellow/Embraceable You/I’ll Get By//Lover Come Back to Me/I Cover the Waterfront/Yesterdays/I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues/I’ll Be Seeing You 56001 mono, S 6001 stereo - Begin the Beguine - Eddie Heywood [1964] Begin the Beguine/Downtown Cafe Boogie/I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me/Carry Me Back to Old Virginny/Uptown Cafe Boogie/Love Me Or Leave Me/Lover Man/Save Your Sorrow 56002 mono, S 6002 stereo - Influence of Five - Hawkins, Young & Others [1964] Smack/My Ideal/Indiana/These Foolish Things/Memories Of You/I Got Rhythm/Way Down Yonder In New Orleans/Stardust/Sittin' In/Just A Riff 56003 mono, S 6003 stereo - Dixieland-New Orleans - Teagarden, Davison & Others [1964] That’s A- Plenty/Panama/Ugly Chile/Riverboat Shuffle/Royal Garden Blues/Clarinet

Mixing INXS in 5.1 ‘I’m Only Looking’ is a comprehensive package of hits and rare footage that is soon to be released by INXS on DVD. Andy Stewart headed into the studio to hear how Mark Opitz and his ‘Best Seat in the House’ production team pulled together this labour of love. ’ve just come from Studios 301 in Sydney where I’ve been now? What had changed? These were great songs back then sure, listening to some new 5.1 mixes of well-known songs recorded but they had never meant anything to me in the past. In my head Iby one of Australia’s most popular and successful bands, INXS. at least, INXS had always been more of a ‘phenomenon’ than a In my car on the way over I found myself vacillating between group I could ‘relate’ to. the present and the past, wondering what the making of a Greatest It wasn’t the ‘80s fashion palette (which was far more ludicrous Hits DVD collection meant to those involved, but more impor- than I remember it being) that made me feel nostalgic, or the tantly, how any of this work was relevant to fans in 2004. Was this gobsmackingly self-conscious hairdos (which in hindsight should an attempt by the band to reclaim former glory, or was it a labour have seen far more hairdressers jailed), or even the multi-tiered of love motivated by the desire to bring the expansive history of keyboard stands, that made Andrew Farriss look like an aerobics INXS together under one roof, one format? I really had no idea.

  • Love Songs Press Release
1 THE MOST ROMANTIC SONGS RECORDED BY THE ACCLAIMED AARON NEVILLE, INCLUDING TRACKS WITH LINDA RONSTADT AND THE NEVILLE BROTHERS, COLLECTED ON NEW COMPILATION AARON NEVILLE: LOVE SONGS “With an angelic voice capable of reconciling spiritual opposites-–wisdom and innocence, masculinity and femininity, the sacred and the profane--(Aaron) Neville can pretty much find the soul of any song...(using) that famous catch in his throat to convey the exuberance of unbridled passion.” --Rolling Stone (1995) The sweet soulful voice of Aaron Neville--the most familiar figure of New Orleans’ first family of music--has been brought to bear on love songs since the late ‘60s. Now 14 of those love songs from his most successful period, the ‘80s and ‘90s, have been collected on Aaron Neville: Love Songs (A&M/UME), released January 14, 2003. With the album co-compiled by Neville himself, each digitally remastered track was selected for its power of romance rather than its chart position. As a result, Aaron Neville: Love Songs brings most of these songs, spanning the years 1981 to 1997, together for the first time on any compilation. The album is the latest in the artist-driven, genre-crossing yet thematic Love Songs series which has previously included collections from Etta James, Elton John, and Stephanie Mills and is scheduled to release albums from Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, the Moody Blues, Peggy Lee and more. Two recordings heard on Aaron Neville: Love Songs are actually from The Neville Brothers (Aaron, Art, Charles and Cyril): their Nawlins renditions of the doo-wop classic “The Ten Commandments Of Love” and ballad standard “Mona Lisa,” both from the siblings’ 1981 Joel Dorn-produced album Fiyo On The Bayou.
