The officers managed to repel attack, but three of them were injured. Of these murders, 24 were committed in Ciudad Chihuahua, 13 in Ciudad Juarez, 2 in Guachochi, and 1 in Parral. Some of these incidents were reported as follows: 21 April 2011: six individuals were killed during two incidents in the Infonavit Vallarta neighborhood and the Unidad neighborhood of Ciudad Chihuahua. One of these victims was a woman. 22 April 2011: 14 individuals were killed. Of these, five were attacked by a group of hitmen outside a house located on Ochoa and 64 Street in the Cerro de la Cruz neighborhood. Six others were killed in the Riberas de Sacramento neighborhood of Ciudad Chihuahua. On this same day, eight individuals, to include a municipal police officer, were also killed during separate incidents in Ciudad Juarez. On 25 April 2011, amplifying information regarding these cases was reported as follows: Three of the women were found inside a salon located in the Centro neighborhood Another woman was found behind the Mozimba Church [16.865252,- 99.928722] located in the Adolfo 3 27 April 2011 Lopez Mateos housing unit. These incidents were reported as follows: Incident one: a rotting head was recovered near the 17.5 kilometer mark along the Guadalajara- Chapala highway, behind the Los Agaves neighborhood. Authorities believe that the head belongs to a 16 year old girl who was reported missing in the beginning of April. Also, about 18 meters from the head, police found a shinbone believed to pertain to the same victim. Event two: the severed head of a male murder victim was recovered from the Poncitlan dam. At this point, forensic examiners are working to determine the man’s identity. These incidents were reported as follows: Officer Captain Cesario Arriaga Leija was attacked and killed on Miguel Alemán and De La Luz Streets [25.6930 - 100.2435] in the Residencial Minerva neighborhood Officers Marco Antonio Mejia Cepeda and Arturo Javier Ruiz 4 27 April 2011 were attacked and killed on Francisco Somohano and Las Américas Avenues [25.6981 - 100.2462] in the Cerradas de Linda Vista neighborhood Multiple shell casings pertaining to AR-15 and AK-47 weapons were recovered from both crime scenes. Spanish Source: http://www.milenio.com/node/703092 Top of the Document Gunmen Kill Entrepreneur at His Residence in Torreon, Coahuila – 25 April 2011 On 24 April 2011 at around 0830 hours, an armed group killed Carlos Ignacio Valdés Berlanga, 61, in front of his house in the San Isidro residential zone [25.5669 -103.4295] of Torreon, Coahuila. Authorities reported that the victim was shot at least ten times. Recovered from the crime scene were more than 20 spent shell casings. Comment: Valdés Berlanga worked with Grupo Lala, a Mexican dairy company founded in 1950 in Gomez Palacia, Durango. At one point, he also served as the President of the Laguna Regional Livestock Union and was also an important livestock businessman in the Comarca Laguna region. Unofficial reports indicate that the entrepreneur was to be kidnapped, but was killed instead. Entrepreneurs and business owners in the area are common extortion targets for organized crime groups operating in the area. Those items seized from this location were reported as follows: 18 sacks of white powder 10 sacks of caustic soda 25 sacks of anhydride sodium Plastic containers Gas tanks Other items used in the production of crystal meth No arrests were made in conjunction with the dismantling of this drug lab.
