Saint Cecilia PARISH Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion 28 March 2021 The Procession in the Streets of Jerusalem James Tissot 28 March 2021 PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION PRELUDE | Timor et Tremor Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) Timor et tremor venerunt super me, Fear and trembling came over me, et caligo cecidit super me: and darkness fell over me: miserere mei, Domine, miserere mei, have mercy on me, O Lord, have mercy on me, quoniam in te confidit anima mea. for my soul trusts in you. Exaudi, Deus, deprecationem meam, Hear, O God, my prayer, quia refugium meum es tu et adjutor fortis. for you are my refuge and my strong helper. Domine, invocavi te, non confundar. Lord, I have called upon you, I shall not be confounded. Christ’s Entry into Jerusalem Stanley E. Saxton (1904-2002) Pour la Fête des Rameaux sur Hosanna Filio David Jeanne Joulain (1920-2010) GOSPEL | Mark 11: 1-10 ENTRANCE PROCESSION | All Glory, Laud and Honor ST. THEODULPH CALL TO WORSHIP In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. COLLECT LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING | Isaiah 50: 4-7 RESPONSORIAL PSALM | Psalm 22: My God, Why Have You Abandoned Me ? Rachel Burckardt All who see me scoff at me; they mock me with parted lips, they wag their heads: "He relied on the LORD; let him deliver him, let him rescue him, if he loves him." Indeed, many dogs surround me, a pack of evildoers closes in upon me; They have pierced my hands and my feet; I can count all my bones. They divide my garments among them, and for my vesture they cast lots. But you, O LORD, be not far from me; O my help, hasten to aid me. I will proclaim your name to my brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will praise you: "You who fear the LORD, praise him; all you descendants of Jacob, give glory to him; revere him, all you descendants of Israel!" SECOND READING | Phillipians 2: 6-11 GOSPEL ACCLAMATION | Glory to You Dan Schutte GOSPEL | Mark 14: 1-15:37 HOMILY NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. LAMB OF GOD | Mass of Christ the Savior Dan Schutte SPIRITUAL COMMUNION It is a long-held Catholic belief that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an “Act of Spiritual Communion.” During this time when we are not able to celebrate the Eucharist together in person, Pope Francis invites Catholics to say this prayer as a source of grace. We can be assured that when we express our desire to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, God will be with us spiritually in a special way. Here is an Act of Spiritual Communion that we encourage you to pray as you participate in our live-streamed liturgies: ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION Loving Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. COMMUNION | Tree of Life Marty Haugen MEDITATION | Jesus, the Lord Roc O’Connor Jesus. Let all creation bend the knee to the Lord. In him we live, we move and have our being; in him the Christ, in him the King. Jesus, the Lord. Though Son, he did not cling to godliness. He emptied himself, became a slave! Jesus, the Lord. He lived obediently his Father’s will accepting his death, death on a tree. Jesus, the Lord. CONCLUDING RITES The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. May almighty God bless you, the Father, (+) and the Son and the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Go forth, the Mass is ended. All: Thanks be to God.
