Writing - review and editing, supervision, project management. ABSTRACT The armed conflict remains a challenge in Colombia. The rural sector has been the main victim of the insecurity, massacres, displacement, and conflicts between military and illegal groups, which has negatively impacted the quality of life and well-being of the population. The Objective this study was to estimate the perception of security in the Colombian rural context during the period 1997 - 2015. Trend study based on periodic Quality of Life surveys by the National Statistics Department (DANE). Synthetic perception of security by period variables were created, with key variables being filtered and homogenized. A bivariate chi-square analysis was conducted between the variable effect contrasted with sex, education, poverty, and workforce.
