Everything you need to understand or teach The Knife Thrower by Steven Millhauser. The Knife Thrower Summary & Study Guide. The Knife Thrower Summary. The knife thrower can be seen as a cult figure for this community, a momentary visitor who incites strange and deeply felt emotions. Like many cult figures, part of his appeal is the offer of an identity of sorts from association with him. He gives out identifying marks that can be used by the receiver as a testament to their belonging somewhere, that they are brave and willing to risk injury for something worth doing. His followers are "many, young women especially, who longed to be wounded by the master and to bear his scar proudly." This is reiterated during the performance itself as many offer themselves to be marked: "then there were other hands, young bodies straining forward, eager." The people who are marked are new members going through initiation, which is demonstrated by the assistant who is transformed from purity, marked by gleaming white and silver. 10 Best Throwing Knives (2021 Update) Buyer’s Guide. Throwing knives are among the coolest looking tactical weapons out there. The origins of throwing knives can be traced back to many ancient civilizations throughout Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. They are widely considered one of the original weapons used by man and were purportedly the weapon of choice for Tutankhamun in Egypt around 1300 B.C (1). However, if you’ve ever tried throwing a knife, it can be quite difficult. Sure, it looks awesome in the movies when the bad guy is stopped by one, but when you’re first starting out in your backyard, there are a few tricks to learn. First, it takes hours of practice to even be somewhat decent at it. Second, you ‘ll need to accurately gauge how far the target is, how many times the knife will spin, how hard to throw, the right arm motion, and that’s not all. You’ll also find out pretty quick that having the right knife is critical. Some knives will never work for a number of reasons and you’re more likely to break them than to be remotely effective throwing them at a target. Knowing this, we’ve put together our list of the 10 Best Throwing Knives of 2021. The knives below offer quality and durability. Most are easily affordable and will provide lots of fun while practicing. We’ve also put together a buyer’s guide at the bottom to outline some of the details for choosing the best knife. 1. Smith and Wesson Throwing Knives. Smith and Wesson are known for crafting high-quality knives, and these light-weight practice blades are no exception. With their lighter weight, coming in at 4.7 ounces per blade, these are great starter blades for close-range throwing. These knives feature a double-sided blade for better penetration and are crafted with stainless steel for excellent corrosion resistance. This set comes with a nylon belt sheath for all 6 blades, making it a great option for those learning to throw knives, or for those wanting light practice knives. 2. SOG Throwing Knives. However, while learning, or deciding if throwing knives is for you, it’s nice to have the option to throw your blade, while also being able to just use it around the camp or at home. If this description matches you, look no further! SOG’s throwing knives are the perfect combo of throwing knife and camping knife. They come in a set of three versatile knives, with a straight-edge blade and a glass-reinforced, paracord-wrapped handle for added strength and grip. It also comes with a nylon belt sheath that fits all three knives. 3. Kershaw Ion Throwing Knives. Deviating a bit from the traditional throwing knife style, Kershaw has managed to make a unique, great looking knife that also operates at a high- performance level. The Ion’s ring on the back of the knife offers balance and also makes these knives easy to remove from their sheath. With a full tang stainless steel blade, this knife has great blade strength, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. With a blade length of 4.5 inches, a weight of 4 ounces per knife, and a fixed spear point blade with a black oxide finish, this a great option for anyone! 4. Cold Steel Sure Flight Throwing Knife. • Rules and Options
Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.).

HOOD MUSEUM OF ART, ART, HOOD MUSEUMOF DARTMOUTH COLLEGE DARTMOUTH THE ART of WEAPONS his exhibition presents exemplary highlights from the Hood Museum of Art’s rich collec- tion of traditional arms and armaments from Africa. It emphasizes the beauty of the weapons and shines a critical light on their significance in the social, political, economic, military, and spiritual organization of traditional societies in Africa. The selected objects, most of which were collected during the era of Western colonization in Africa, are of impeccable craftsman- ship and elegance and thus showcase the creativity and technical skills of their makers. Displayed together for the first time, they represent artistic traditions of nearly forty cultural groups spread across the East, West, Central, North, and Southern African sub-regions. The Art of Weapons presents the history of these objects as they have passed from hands of the craftsmen who cre- ated them to the warriors who deployed them to the Western collectors who gathered and displayed them. weapons and their makers Characteristically of African material cultures through the ages, many of these objects combine utilitarian and symbolic functions. They feature intricate geometric and linear patterns embellished on their surfaces, and command attention with their spiral forms, multiple thrusting edges, and beautifully carved anthropomor- phic and zoomorphic handles. The weapons reveal the widespread mastery of iron, brass, and copper, as well as the use of wood, animal hides, and plant materials, in weapons production in Africa. Beyond their formal designations as knives, spears, or shields, the weapons come in different sizes, forms, types, and aesthetic clas- sifications.
