To support Visit Belfast’s ambitious plans to drive further tourism growth to the city and region, we have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Marketing & Communications to join the Marketing and Communications Team.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, responsibility for the management, coordination, development and delivery of web, digital, communications & marketing campaign plans, working across the organisation promoting Belfast as an international business and leisure tourism destination, contributing to increased web and digital footprint and bed nights and day trips in line with those set out in Visit Belfast’s 3-year Recovery Strategy “Rebuilding City Tourism” and 2021-22 Operational Marketing plans.

Remuneration

The salary range for this position is £36,786 to £46,599.

Location

This position is based in our corporate office opposite Belfast City Hall. In line with Government guidance working from home has been facilitated for many staff and plans are in place for a hybrid return to office as soon as the guidance permits.

Visit Belfast’s corporate office and the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre (VBWC) are located at 9, Donegall Square North, Belfast, BT1 5GB.

Hours of Work

This is a full time position which will require you to work occasional weekends, Bank Holidays and evenings as required, as well as working off-site at airports, or events.

Annual Leave

The leave year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata, with an additional 11 customary public holidays. After 5 years continual service leave entitlement will increase to 30 days per year. Pensions

POSITION GUIDELINES

POSITION: Head of Marketing and Communications

DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communications Department

REPORTING TO: Senior Director of Marketing and Communications

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Marketing and Communications team

PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, responsibility for the management, coordination, development and delivery of web, digital, communications & marketing campaign plans, working across the organisation promoting Belfast as an international business and leisure tourism destination, contributing to increased web and digital footprint and bed nights and day trips in line with those set out in Visit Belfast’s 3-year Recovery Strategy “Rebuilding City Tourism” and 2021-22 Operational Marketing plans.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:

1. To work with the Director to coordinate and implement Visit Belfast’s corporate planning process across the marketing and communications department including assisting and co- ordinating the development of the department’s annual business and marketing plans and identifying monitoring performance KPI’s against agreed plans.

2. Reporting to the Director to develop, co-ordinate & oversee Visit Belfast’s marketing and communications plans and related marketing & digital activity to market Belfast as a leisure and business tourism destination and provide support as required to the Business Tourism Team & Visitor Servicing Team.

3. Working with the Director and across the organisation to identify, develop and co-ordinate joint marketing promotional activity with private and public sector partners.

4. To co-ordinate and oversee research and monitoring of all marketing and promotional activity and identify new measurements and methods.

5. To oversee the management and co-ordination of Visit Belfast’s web presence, digital and online marketing activity and visitbelfast.com websites and social media channels.

6. To support the Director in the coordination & implementation of Visit Belfast’s PR & digital communications plan including press & online activities.

7. Reporting to the Director to oversee and manage the teams budgets as assigned to department managers, requiring constant monitoring of income and expenditure against budget management and department reporting processes

8. To oversee & coordinate the implementation of Belfast brand place positioning strategy for use within tourism digital advertising, marketing & promotion, including integration / use of Tourism NI’s Embrace a Giant Spirit Brand as appropriate and agreed.

9. To support the Director in developing and securing new strategic sponsorship & funding agreements for Visit Belfast & to assist in managing strategic relationships contributing to core funding.

10. To ensure that Belfast is positioned effectively in all areas of Regional & National marketing, working with national tourism organisations and industry partners.

Marketing / Communications

1. Drive innovation in Visit Belfast’s competitive positioning and approach to brand deployment, creative design, digital marketing and strategy.

2. To assist the Director in the development, management and monitoring of the departments digital marketing and promotional plans which reflect the key result areas, the strategic marketing objectives and key activities as outlined in the operational business plans.

3. Reporting to the Director to be responsible for the planning, organisation and control of a schedule of agreed digital and content marketing activities and outputs to ensure the achievement of set marketing objectives.

4. To oversee the development of joint marketing & promotional initiatives with commercial & industry partners and public sector funding opportunities for Visit Belfast’s identified priority sectors, segments and geographic markets as identified in the operational business plan.

5. To support the Director in identifying new commercial opportunities and to initiate and develop projects and programmes to generate income and revenue for the organisation’s sales & marketing activity.

6. To deputise for the Director as required, and to ensure appropriate representation at in-house and external meetings, at trade, and consumer facing events domestically, nationally and internationally promoting and selling Belfast’s products and services.

7. Ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluation of the marketing & communications plans.

Specific Tasks

Relationships

1. Contributing to further development and maintenance of established relationships with partner businesses & organisations in Belfast and City Region in both public and private sectors to develop and co-ordinate integrated marketing of the city region as a world class destination for business and leisure. Ensuring maximum benefit from their investment and association with Visit Belfast

2. To foster mutually beneficial relationships with Visit Belfast’s partners and with Tourism Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland, Belfast City Council, other Councils in Belfast City region, Strategic Partners and other public bodies in the tourism industry, locally, nationally and internationally.

3. To assist the Director with the development & management of the relationship with sponsors & funders.

Management and Supervision

1. To recruit, manage & develop marketing and communications staff, undertake appraisals as appropriate and identify training needs for the staff allocated.

2. Manage internal processes to ensure the efficient and effective management of team workload and output.

3. Line management of a growing team of Digital, Social and Content & Marketing Managers and executives

4. To participate fully and effectively in the leadership and management of the Marketing and Communications team and that of the wider Visit Belfast teams- relating to marketing and communications activity and contributing as required to other areas of work.

5. Reporting to the Director oversee, prepare, monitor and control the budgets of the key result areas within the marketing and communications team (campaigns, web & digital communications)

6. Prepare reports & submissions as required by the Director including those for the Board and its committees and the CEO.

1. To undertake work out of normal office hours as required.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
