DocuSign Envelope ID: 53EAE5A9-A79F-4FEC-82FA-A4003FD2523F TERMS OF REFERENCE Position: National expert on support and coordination of work during implementation of the second phase of the Eco Damu micro-loan program Project title and number: UNDP-GEF Project «Conservation and sustainable management of key globally important ecosystems for multiple benefits», 00101043 Duration: 12 months from the date of contract signing, 210 working days, December 2020 - December 2021 Duty station: Home based with trips to East Kazakhstan, Almaty and Turkestan regions Contract Type: Individual contract PROJECT DESCRIPTION Project background, basic information and objectives Kazakhstan has approximately 12.6 million hectares of forest, which makes it one of the most forest- rich countries in Eurasia, despite the fact that its forests amount to only 4.6% of the national territory. Approximately 95% of Kazakhstan’s forests are managed by 123 state forestry entities, which are overseen by regional governments (akimats). Under the current forest governance system, forestry entities lack sufficient capacity to effectively manage HCVF, including those forests neighboring highly biodiverse protected areas. Kazakhstan’s protected area system covers approximately 24,018,800 ha, or 8.81% (as of 2015) of the total country, although only 5% of Kazakhstan’s forests are included within protected areas. Therefore, forest ecosystems are underrepresented in the national protected area systems. Kazakhstan has three main forest ecosystem types: alpine forests, tugai (riparian) forests, and saxaul landscapes (desert and semi-desert shrubs). GEF-UNDP Project “«Conservation and sustainable management of key globally important ecosystems for multiple benefits» (hereinafter referred as Project) has being implemented in Kazakhstan since 2018.

  • Search for Promising Protease Producers Used for Molecular Diagnostics
МРНТИ 579.672 1M.Zh. Kanzhigitova 2A.M. Esimova 2M.A. Dzhakasheva 1South Kazakhstan medical Academy, Shymkent, Kazakhstan 2M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, Shymkent, Kazakhstan (E-mail:[email protected]) Search for promising protease producers used for molecular diagnostics Annotation: The article considers that the majority of biotechnologies in industry and agriculture are based on catalytic processes carried out by enzymes of microbial origin. Special importance is currently attached to enzyme preparations of proteolytic action, which is due to the significant opportunities for their multi-purpose use in various industries. Particularly relevant in recent years is the use of proteolytic enzymes in basic and applied medical research-the detection of vital proteins in the human body. In this paper, we selected the most promising strain - a producer of proteolytic enzymes. The activity of proteolytic enzymes formed by local strains isolated from natural sources (soil of the Turkestan region) was studied. Active producers of proteases are bacteria, microscopic fungi and actinomycetes. Microscopic fungi of the genus Aspergillus have the greatest ability to biosynthesize proteases. As a seed material, an aqueous spore suspension obtained after the growth of fungi was used. The choice of the producer strain is determined by its ability to provide sufficiently high levels of protease activity in the fermentation medium, the rate of formation of enzymes per unit mass of the substrate used, as well as the cost of the substrates themselves. Key words: strains, proteases, cultivating, enzymes, proteins, screening. DOI: https://doi.org/10.32523/2616-7034-2020-133-4-16-21 Proteases are enzymes from the class of hydrolases that cleave the peptide bond between amino acids in proteins.

  • Analysis of Key Swot-Characteristics of Agri‐Business, Management and Land Use in Kazakhstan: the Case of Turkestan Region
Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal Volume 27, Issue 5, 2021 ANALYSIS OF KEY SWOT-CHARACTERISTICS OF AGRI‐BUSINESS, MANAGEMENT AND LAND USE IN KAZAKHSTAN: THE CASE OF TURKESTAN REGION Yermek Anarbayev, Kazakh National Agrarian University Toleubek Pentayev, Kazakh National Agrarian University Dinara Molzhigitova, Kazakh National Agrarian University Ardak Omarbekova, Kazakh National Agrarian University Sholpan Omarova, Kazakh National Agrarian University ABSTRACT Agriculture is the main livelihood option for development of region of Kazakhstan, which is characterised by small land-holdings, upland terrain, traditional cultivation practices, extensive irrigation, poor water conservation measures, middle productivity, limited crop diversification and low yields of food grains. 53% of the population in Kazakhstan is concentrated in rural areas and the economy is mostly based on agriculture produce with very limited industrialisation. This paper aims to perform SWOT analysis of agriculture sector of Kazakhstan. The study has been carried out by conducting SWOT-review and analysis of key characteristics of agri‐business, management and land use in Kazakhstan in Turkestan region of Kazakhstan. It is found that agriculture sector is contributing a lot in region’s GDP and there are many areas in which agriculture sector needs to grow and establish itself as a primary mean of development. By adopting the proposed solutions, agriculture sector can be developed significantly, its imports will decrease and exports will increase. The strength of the district lies with favorable environmental conditions, availability of labor, availability of agricultural lands. The weakness of the district include inadequate financial services, over-reliance on climatic conditions, poor post-harvest management practices and market conditions. The negative ramification of climate change, weak links between research, markets, and policy, insufficient political will towards the continuity of programs are serious threats.
