OF We are pleased to present VIII edition of the «Export Products of Kazakhstan THE CHAIRMAN CHAIRMAN THE 2015» Directory, enriched with information about operating exporters and «newbies» that are planning to occupy niche in foreign markets with products «Made in Kazakhstan». This edition contains information about 721 Kazakhstani companies, including 579 producers that manufacture more than 830 types of export- oriented goods, and 142 service providers. As of today, out of 579 goods-producing companies, 405 have already been OF exporting domestic products to the markets of 30 countries of the world, while G THE the rest of them are only getting experience and planning to enter foreign markets. Out of 142 service-producing companies, 78 are exporting geologic exploration, O IT, logistics and tourist services. B VERNING Talking objectively, the number of active exporters in Kazakhstan is much higher, however, the Directory was formed based on voluntary consent of the companies to place information in our book, and we sincerely thank them for it. O As the national agency that supports domestic exporters, we believe that in ARD today’s severe marketing competition, Kazakhstan should actively develop the export of processed goods and contribute to the promotion of domestic goods and services. Despite the general stereotypes that modern Kazakhstan is known in the international market as a supplier of raw materials and mineral resources, Kazakhstani companies have real capabilities to produce and export high quality and environmentally friendly products with inherent «national» character. We hope that «Export products of Kazakhstan 2015» Directory will become a useful source in search of information about Kazakhstani producers and exporters and help to establish reliable relations with them. We wish You every success in your work! Schäpe, Helena Röttgers, Nikita Tychkov 1. Territorial and geographical location Ili Delta, Kazakhstan Almatinskaya Oblast (province), Bakanas Rayon (county) The Ili Delta is part of the Ramsar Site Ile River Delta and South Lake Balkhash Ramsar Site 2. Natural and geographic data Basic geographical data: location between 45° N and 46° N as well as 74° E and 75.5° E. Fig. 1: Map of the Ili-Balkhash Basin (Imentai et al., 2015). Natural areas: The Ramsar Site Ile River Delta and South Lake Balkhash Ramsar Site comprises wetlands and meadow vegetation (the modern delta), ancient river terraces that now harbour Saxaul and Tamarx shrub vegetation, and the southern coast line of the western part of Lake Balkhash. Most ecosystem services can be attributed to the wetlands and meadow vegetation. Therefore, this study focusses on the modern delta with its wetlands and meadows. During this study, a land cover map was created through classification of Rapid Eye Satellite images from the year 2014. The land cover classes relevant for this study were: water bodies in the delta, dense reed (total vegetation more than 70%), and open reed and shrub vegetation (vegetation cover of reed 20- 70% and vegetation cover of shrubs and trees more than 70%). The land cover class dense reed was further split into submerged dense reed and non-submerged dense reed by applying a threshold to the short wave infrared channel of a Landsat satellite image from 4 April 2015.
