Postgame Quotes vs. St. Louis Blues Feb. 10, 2019

Predators Quotes Head Coach On the third period… It was a different game completely for us today in a positive way, I hate the result because we didn’t walk away with another point. But for me, the speed and the competitiveness, the shots, the attempts, the looks that we had – I thought they were good. I thought there were a couple of things we did defensively that we just put ourselves on the rush, on the wrong side of them coming at us and it created situations that were uneasy. I thought that in a couple situations, we could have been more responsible. They had a couple of pucks that had some eyes to them. I thought that backhand had some eyes in it, the one that put them back up in the third period, that one seemed to have a little redirect and some eyes to find the back of the net but they’re finding ways to win hockey games and they found a way today. I thought the things we did today were much better than the things we did last night.

On figuring out the rest of the season… I think we could use a little bit more balance in our scoring. I think guys are finding their way back from the injuries. You can’t just it with a broad brush and say every game was good or every game was bad. I was pretty clear that last night I did not like the way we played. Tonight, I thought that we did enough good things to win a hockey game, I hate the result, but on a back-to-back situation and chasing the game the whole night, we gave our guys credit for competing until the end. I just don’t like the result of the game, so I don’t know if you’re going to get a clear-cut answer. Every game is different, and every game will be different moving forward. There will be hopefully a lot that we like and not so many like we don’t like, we’re always trying to get better.

Defenseman On the game as a whole and how it transitioned… I think the first was good, I mean they are a good team and they’re playing really well right now. I thought we had a good first, obviously we had a couple mistakes that cost us three goals there in the second. Like I said, the third period was great and we showed a lot of character but against a team like that, you have to do it for 60 minutes.

On anything being taken away from playing the Blues yesterday and today… They’re good, they’re fast, they’re physical, they’re skilled, they’re just a really good team. Especially yesterday, they got the better of us, they were the faster team and they were more physical. Like I said today, I think we played pretty well for the most part, but they are a really good team and they have been playing well lately.

Forward On what it is about this team in the third that they can always find ways to come back… We have things that we need to do better, but we’ve never dealt with character in this room. These guys never give up. We just keep pushing and keep moving forward. It’s just trying to find ways to win hockey games and play for each other. That’s a big positive for sure.

Forward On if he felt like they were fighting uphill most of the day… I don’t know. I didn’t think we started that bad. We had a good first period. A couple of mistakes cost us in the second. We really got going in the third. I think we played our game in the third and really pushed forward.

On what is working best for his game right now… I just try to work hard and try to get the puck to and Ryan Johansen. Forsberg is making plays and Johansen is too. Today, I just had two tap-ins. I try to be around the net as much as I can. I just have my stick down.

Blues Quotes Interim Head Coach Craig Berube On today’s game… It was a tough game, we knew that coming in obviously, with the back-to-backs. We knew the schedule and we had an early start. That’s a good team over there. We knew that in the third period, they were going to come after us and they did, but the team didn’t panic and that’s a big thing. We stayed with it, and battled back and ended up getting a win out of it. It was good, we just stayed with it and didn’t panic and that’s on those guys, they’re doing a great job.

On the 3-1 lead in the third… I think it goes back to the team’s confidence. They feel good about themselves so maybe a while back, if you give up a two- lead, you’re just going to try to hang on but I didn’t feel that. I felt that guys were in it and they were good, their energy was good, a lot of talk on the bench so it’s good stuff.

On back to back win… Guys are playing well. It really boils down to a feel thing and the way we’re playing. I think night in and night out, we’re doing a real good job of sticking with our game and just playing our game and we’re being rewarded with wins.

Defenseman On how it feels to win their sixth straight game… Good teams find a way to win. We had some low energy and we were breaking down defensively, but we found a way to win. Tonight, it doesn’t matter how long it took us, we got away with a win.

On the feel of this team… Everyone is healthy right now so we can play everybody in every situation and we have some good roles going right now. When you have the depth that we have, it shows in games like this.

Forward Ryan O’Reilly On what stands out from the game… We were very comfortable with each other and we did what we needed to do. We played hard and heavy and we won a lot of battles. The third period wasn’t great and they could’ve taken that game over but our goalie gave us the chance to win which is huge for us back-to-back.

Forward On his determination tonight… I just try to take it to the net, but winning these back-to-back games against Nashville is big for us. We had confidence and it is a really emotional game, especially with the way they play. We have a lot of memories with Nashville but this time of year, we just like to play every game like it’s a playoff game.

Goalie Jake Allen On not playing in 24 days… I think that’s one of the longest stretches that I have been off since I’ve been in the NHL. It’ s tough if you’re a goalie to get your legs back so you always try to settle in as fast as you can. It was tough but it was fun and it was especially good to get some action.
