COTTING SCHOOL Every Fall, I carry a secret smile for the families whose children are just starting at Cotting because I know the transformation they’ll see over the next six months and the hopes and dreams for their child that will soon be renewed. After all these years, Deborah and I still turn to each other often and say, “Thank God for Cotting.” ~ Tina Riedel, Cotting parent WHAT I KNOW NOW For many Cotting families, enrolling their child in our School involves time, dedication, careful consideration and effort. They see that our resources are unparalleled, our staff is highly qualified, and our technology is cutting edge. Yet joining a new school and community always comes with its share of anxiety. With that in mind, we asked several parents whose child has been a student at Cotting or HOPEhouse, our 5-day boarding program, to reflect back to their first day here. We posed the question, “Knowing what you know now, what would you tell yourself (or another new parent) on your first day at Cotting?” Their candid reflections grace this Report. Each day, Cotting School students make small increments of progress. Over time those achievements accrue, resulting in remarkable progress in academics, technology, the arts, and athletics. Friendships blossom, self-confidence surges, and independence increases. We are privileged to watch our students grow firsthand. If you have never witnessed the tenacity, enthusiasm and perseverance of Cotting students, we invite you to stop by and see for yourself. Undoubtedly, you will join us in cheering their efforts. 1 David Cushing, Chair with David Manzo, President A Year of Expansion hat a phenomenal year this has been at Cotting School! We Whave seen expansion in so many key areas of our community starting with our main mission: our students. Enrollment topped at 122 students in this, our 122nd year. We were delighted to be in a position to purchase 3.7 acres of land adjacent to the School when the parcel suddenly became available in May 2015. The property was acquired as part of Cotting’s long-term commitment to the future of continuing to serve our students. We are updating our campus master plan to include this acquisition and look forward to sharing it with you in the future. 2 An anonymous gift endowing the position of HOPEhouse, our 5-day boarding program, is now in the Director of Cotting Consulting enables us to its third year of serving young adults ages 17-22 who expand services to underserved communities.
