MARCH 18, 2018 SUNDAY OF ST. JOHN CLIMACUS PLAGAL 4TH TONE / EIGHTH EOTHINON (John 20:11-18) EPISTLE: Hebrews 6:13-20 GOSPEL: Mark 9:17-31 BRETHREN, when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore to himself, saying, "Surely I will bless you and multiply you." And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise. Men indeed swear by a greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he interposed with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God should prove false, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
Resurrectional Apolytikion / Plagal 4th Seasonal Kontakion / Plagal 4th Tone From on high did You descend O Merciful Lord, for To You as champion unto victory invincible, Your City offers thanksgiving unto You. From us did You endure, three days in the tomb that we our trials Theotokos have You redeemed us, for may be released from passions in this world. You as You possess invincible might and power. From who are our resurrection and our life - Glory unto all dangers Theotokos deliver us, as we cry unto You O Lord. You: “Hail, O Bride unwedded!”.
COMMUNION REMINDER - APOLYTIKION OF ST. KATHERINE Let us praise the most auspicious bride of Christ, the divine Katherine, protectress of Sinai, she is our aid and our help. For she brilliantly silenced the eloquence of the impious, by the sword of the spirit, and now crowned as a martyr, she intercedes for us.

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage. For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned but with the descendants of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
