WELCOME

We are blessed you are worshipping with us this morning, If you are unfamiliar with Orthodox practice we would like to provide some simple instructions.

Prayers upon Entering Church: When you enter into the holy church, cross yourself and consciously drive away all of your cares and worries, and silently or quietly say this prayer: “I rejoiced when they said to me: Let us go to the house of the Lord. I enter your house with thanksgiving, O Lord, and worship in your holy temple in fear of you. Guide me, Lord, in your righteousness; direct your path before me, that unhindered, with a pure heart and an upright spirit, I may glorify one Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.”

You will see the faithful going before the of Christ and the icon of the Birth-giver of Christ to venerate them. The practice is to cross yourself twice while reading the prayers on the Christ icon stand, cross yourself again when done and then go to the Birth-giver of icon stand doing likewise.

You are free to sit at different times during the Divine Liturgy. However, out of respect to God, we ask that you stand during the following: censing, with the Gospel, reading of the Gospel, when the priest gives a blessing, during the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer (Our Father), during the pre-communion prayers, and during Communion/ Eucharist. When in doubt, ask the priest!

Prayers upon Leaving Church: After venerating the and the cross, as you exit the church, turn towards the altar, cross yourself and quietly or silently say this prayer: “Lord my God, I entrust my entire life to You and I pray: Help me, save me and show Your loving-kindness to me; grant that I may live wisely, and may the end of my life be Christian, unashamed and peaceful; keep me from all the evils an attacks of the enemy. On Your fearful judgement day, show Your kindness to me, Your servant, and number me among the sheep at Your right hand, that together with them I may glorify You unto all ages. Amen.”

May God richly bless you!

Father Thomas

Memorial Saturday Tone 8

Only Creator, with wisdom profound, You mercifully order all things, / and give that which is needed to all men: / Give rest, O Lord, to the souls of Your servants who have fallen asleep, / for they have placed their trust in You, our Maker and Fashioner, and our God.

Troparion St. John Climacus of Sinai, Author of the Ladder Tone 8 By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile / And by your longing for God you brought forth fruits in abundance. / By the radiance of miracles you illuminated the whole universe. / O our holy Father John Climacus, pray to Christ our God to save our souls.

Kontakions Memorial Saturday Tone 8 With the saints give rest, O Christ, to the souls of Your servants, / where there is neither sickness nor sorrow, and no more sighing, / but life everlasting.

Kontakion Martyr St. John Climacus of Sinai, Author of the Ladder Tone 1 You offered us your teachings as fruits of everlasting freshness, / To sweeten the hearts of those who receive them with attention. / O blessed and wise John, they are the rungs of a ladder, / Leading the souls of those who honor you from earth to Eternal glory in !

PROKEIMENON: Priest: Peace be to all. Choir: And to your spirit. Deacon: Wisdom! Reader: The Prokeimenon in the 6th Tone: Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O you righteous. Choir: Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O you righteous. Reader: Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Choir: Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O you righteous. Reader: Their souls shall dwell… Choir: with the blessed. Deacon: Wisdom! Reader: The Reading from St Paul’s letter to the Hebrews. Deacon: Let us be attentive! Reader: Brethren, But remember the former days when you endured a harsh conflict of suffering after you were enlightened. At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way. For in fact you shared the sufferings of those in prison, and you accepted the confiscation of your belongings with joy, because you knew that you certainly had a better and lasting possession. So do not throw away your confidence, because it has great reward. For you need endurance in order to do God’s will and so receive what is promised. For just a little longer and he who is coming will arrive and not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, I take no pleasure in him. Priest: Peace be to you, reader Reader: And to your spirit. – The righteous cried and the Lord heard them, and delivered them out of all their troubles. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Choir: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Reader: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord will deliver them out of them all. Choir: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Reader: Blessed are those whom You have chosen and taken, O Lord. Their memory is from generation to generation. Choir: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Gospel: Mark 2:14-17 At that time, as he went along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax booth. “Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him. As was having a meal in Levi’s home, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the experts in the law and the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard this he said to them, “Those who are healthy don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Amen.O Merciful Lord, visit and heal this sick person, now lying on the bed of sickness and sorely afflicted, as You, O Saviour, didst once raise Peter’s wife’s mother and the man sick with palsy and was carried on his bed: for You alone has born the sickness and afflictions of our race, and with You nothing is impossible for You are all-merciful. Amen

Pardon every transgression which she has committed, whether by word or deed or thought.
