Opus Techniques

Basic provides a detailed -cutting lesson, an introduction to the types of tesserae or , classical and contemporary design techniques plus the use of the tools and equipment necessary to create a beautiful mosaic piece.

You will learn about the decorative aspects and forms of such sheet glass, glass rods, stringers/noodles, iridescent and . Each student will learn mosaic andamento or the visual flow of mosaics. Specifically each student can expect to learn about the techniques of: • Opus Musivum • Opus Paladanium • Opus Regulatum • Opus Sectile • Opus Tesselatum • Opus Vermiculatum

Students will begin a project using the techniques learned. Students are encouraged to complete their projects at home or through our Workshop Membership or Studio Rental programs.

We encourage students to consider our Membership or Studio Rental programs as they provide an economical way to work in a clean, bright, fully-equipped environment, surrounded by like-minded glass artists and caring, supportive & helpful expert staff.

Base glass, accessory glass, supplies are additional.

Wear comfortable cotton clothing, but no open-toed shoes, flip flops or sandals. No previous glass experience is necessary. Please bring a notepad & pen.

Students must be at least 16 years old to participate in this program. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian also enrolled in the same class. All students will be required to sign a GCSGG issued liability release form.
