Husted Billings, Montana June 2001 i Acknowledgments Robert Edgar participated in the excavation of Mummy Cave from the beginning, acting as field su- pervisor from 1963 through 1965 and assistant in 1966 when I joined the project as supervisor. Although having no formal training in archeology, Edgar carried out the work in a most creditable manner, and by 1966, had become a very competent excavator. His aid during the final season on the site was invaluable, and his intimate knowledge of the surface archeology of the region added much to our daily discussions on the significance of the materials excavated earlier and being recovered at the time. Although written in the first person, this report is as much Edgar’s as it is mine. His thoughts and ideas have been considered, he provided the descriptions of many of the artifacts, especially those for the bone and wooden objects, and he drew the profiles of the deposits. However, as senior author, errors of commission and omission are mine, and I am solely responsible for the interpretations herein. The hypotheses to be offered here were developed in great part by Oscar L. Mallory of the River Ba- sin Surveys, Smithsonian Institution and myself before I joined the Mummy Cave Project. The findings at Mummy Cave necessitated some modification of these models and provided evidence for extending them beyond their original limits. Mallory contributed in full measure to the further development of the hy- potheses. Hence, he has played a significant role in the production of this report. His criticisms and sug- gestions offered during our many discussions and his patience with my innumerable interruptions to talk over various matters of interpretation are gratefully acknowledged. Mallory also identified the plant fibers used to make the cordage and basketry. I wish here to offer my thanks to Warren W. Caldwell, Director of the River Basin Surveys. His con- tributions are many and varied ranging from constructive criticism to encouragement. Throughout the en- tire period of my association with the Mummy Cave project he made himself available for assistance, in whatever form was necessary and whenever it was sought. He participated actively with Mallory and me in many discussions of the hypotheses and interpretations. As my supervisor, he was most understanding and encouraging during the all too frequent periods when discouragement and doubt made the completion of this report seem an impossible goal. Mere thanks are a mean reward, but I find myself unable to ade- quately express my heartfelt gratitude to Warren for his aid and generosity.     PROCEEDINGS Jackson Hole Chronic Wasting Disease Forum December 7, 2016 National Museum of Wildlife Art Jackson, Wyoming INTRODUCTION The purpose of this Chronic Wasting Disease forum was to highlight CWD research and management considerations, with the goal to share current science-based information with the general public and all organizations concerned with the long-term health of elk and deer populations in the Jackson Hole Area. ABSTRACTS *Names of presenters in bold text Wyoming Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance Mary Wood, State Veterinarian, Wildlife Veterinary Research Services, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Laramie, Wyoming, USA Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) was first described in captive mule deer from Colorado and Wyoming in the 1970’s (Williams 1980). After the initial discovery and description of this disease, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) began collaborative work with Dr. Elizabeth Williams in 1982 to investigate whether the disease was present in free-ranging populations (Williams 1992, Miller 2000). This was the beginning of a decades-long surveillance program to study the distribution and spread of this disease in free-ranging cervid populations. Between 1982 and 1997 a limited number of CWD samples were collected through local check stations near Laramie and Wheatland WY. WGFD surveillance began in earnest in 1997, with peak surveillance occurring between 2003 and 2011 when federal funding was available. Currently the WGFD Wildlife Health Laboratory tests between 1500 and 3500 samples for CWD each year with over 56,000 samples tested to date in Wyoming. Surveillance includes voluntary sample collection from hunter harvested animals as well as collection from road-killed animals and targeted animals showing signs consistent with CWD.

Preliminary ex- Serranía La Lindosa cavations were conducted at Cerro Azul, Limoncillos and Cerro Montoya archaeological sites in Guaviare Early peopling Department, Colombia. Contemporary dates at the three separate rock shelters establish initial colonisation of Foragers the region between ~12,600 and ~11,800 cal BP. The contexts also yielded thousands of remains of fauna, flora, Human adaptability lithic artefacts and mineral pigments, associated with extensive and spectacular rock pictographs that adorn the Rock art rock shelter walls. This article presents the first data from the region, dating the timing of colonisation, de- scribing subsistence strategies, and examines human adaptation to these transitioning landscapes. The results increase our understanding of the global expansion of human populations, enabling assessment of key inter- actions between people and the environment that appear to have lasting repercussions for one of the most important and biologically diverse ecosystems in the world.
