Experienced professionals also have the opportunity to deepen their skills in the field of public management and public policy through a range of Executive Education offers. A renowned faculty with expertise in economics, business, law and political as well as social science take an interdisciplinary, policy-oriented approach to the School’s teaching and research agenda. Students from over 50 nations and a global network of academic partners position the Hertie School as an international centre in the heart of Berlin that actively engages in public debate with its wide range of events bringing together experts from theory and practice. We warmly invite you to read more about the Hertie School and hope to welcome you on our campus in the near future. Helmut K. Anheier, Marina Frost, President and Dean Managing Director Degrees and programmes The two-year Master of Public Policy (MPP) pro- gramme is geared towards students with a Bachelor degree who wish to expand their knowledge in the fields of global or European governance, economic policy, social policy, public management, and demo- cratic governance. The two-year Master of International Affairs (MIA) programme focuses on international relations and prepares candidates for positions requiring a profound understanding of today’s governance challenges in a global multilevel system. The MPP and MIA programmes include an internship and the opportunity to do a “professional year”. Students can also spend a semester abroad or complete dual degrees at one of the School’s partner institutions. The Hertie School offers the Doctoral programme in Governance, a three-year structured doctoral pro- gramme with a focus on governance and public policy; and contributes to the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS). Various options are offered for professionals: The Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) is for experienced professionals from the private, public, and non-profit sector, who wish to develop their management and leadership skills. By completing an 4 Executive Seminar or Certificate, professionals can ex- pand their management competence in a specific area. EMPA participants benefit from several exchange programmes with partner universities as well as very flexible structures. The Customised and Executive Programme Develop- ment Unit offers tailor-made solutions to companies and organisations in the public, private, and civil society sectors. About the students MPP students at the Hertie School on average have two degrees, have completed three internships, have studied, volunteered, or worked in three coun- tries, and speak four languages. Around one third of each class chooses careers in business, another third in government and international organisations, the remaining third joins the non-profit sector and research. Executive MPA participants study either full-time or part-time over two years. On average, they have ten years of professional life, are 36 years old, and com- bine work experience from more than 40 countries. 5 Faculty and research An interdisciplinary focus and policy orientation distinguish the Hertie School’s research agenda. Inter- nationally recognised academics make up the core faculty. Together with adjuncts, guest lecturers and researchers from academia and practice, research assistants and doctoral candidates they cover a broad spectrum of public policy issues in their teaching and research. First-rate publications and numerous inter national research projects with partner institu- tions are further research highlights at the Hertie School. Core faculty Helmut K.
