JOHN LACKEY tied a season-high with 8.0 innings pitched, the second time in his last three starts he has thrown 8.0 innings … also tied a season-best with three hits allowed … has now posted a 2.12 ERA (7 ER/29.2 IP) in four starts this season at … the 112 pitches marked a season-high.  Retired his first 14 batters faced … the third time in his past four games he has retired at least the first nine batters.  Walked zero batters for the first time this season … marked his 16th-career game in which he has walked none while pitching 8.0 or more innings.

TOMMY LA STELLA (1-for-4) has reached base in 10 of his last 21 plate appearances (.476 OBP) over his last seven games.

NOTES: The Cubs were swept in a doubleheader for the first time since July 8, 2014 at Cincinnati (2-4, 5-6) ... were swept in a doubleheader at home for the first time since June 28, 2014 vs. Washington (0-3, 2-7).  The Cubs have lost consecutive games for the first time all season (32nd and 33rd games) ... SAN DIEGO PADRES

DREW POMERANZ fanned a career-high tying 10 batters … also struck out 10 batters April 20 of this season vs. Pittsburgh … marked his third career start of at least 6.0- scoreless innings … has posted a 0.50 ERA (1 ER/18.0 IP) over his last three starts, allowing just seven hits and seven walks while fanning 20 batters.  Has allowed two runs in 11.0 innings pitched in two-career starts at Wrigley Field.  His two double-digit strikeout games this season are the only such games by Padres starting pitchers this season.  Is the first Padres starter to strike out at least 10 batters in 6.0-scoreless innings since did so, August 22 of last season vs. St. Louis (6.0 IP, 10 SO) … is the first Padres starter to do so on the road since , September 15, 2013 at Atlanta (7.0 IP, 10 SO).

FERNANDO RODNEY became just the second Padres pitcher ever with two saves in one day, joining , May 30, 1977 at … thanks STATS Inc … he has not allowed an earned run in 14 appearances this season (14.0 IP).

CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT (2-for-3, HR, R, RBI) collected the Padres’ first hit of the game, a solo homer in the fifth inning … has homered in consecutive games for the first time in his career … also has consecutive multi-hit games, going 4-for-7 with three RBI and three runs scored in his last two contests.

NOTES: The Padres swept a doubleheader at Wrigley Field for the first time in franchise history ... first sweep of a doubleheader since May 19, 2004 at Pittsburgh.  The Padres have won or split each of their last four series … San Diego won its first 1-0 game since April 10, 2015 vs. the Giants.  (1.0 IP, SO) has not allowed a run in his last nine appearances (7.1 IP), surrendering just two hits and walking none during that stretch.
