Sneak Peak: DV Awareness Month Planning Every October, Safe At Home commemorates Domestic Violence Awareness Month by holding school-wide awareness campaigns at all of our 15 locations. A group of students – known as peer leaders – will work with the therapist to spread the word throughout their school, using skills like leadership and advocacy that they’ll continue to build throughout the year. This year’s theme is all about those skills, and more. “Your words are your power. How will you use yours?” will encourage students to look to the strengths and power they already possess to be an ally and advocate. I haven’t found any truly outstanding contributions in the attenuated in the last half of careers. (See winners box.) The award is presented each year to the player who exhibits exceptional athletic ability and exemplary sportsmanship. Past winners of this prestigious award include current Major League Baseball stars J. D. Drew, Pat Burrell, Jason Varitek, Jason Jennings and Mark Prior. > Arizona State’s Bob Horner won the inaugural award in 1978 after hitting .412 with 20 doubles and 25 RBI. Because state law prohibits the city from reducing rates for one sector of the public by increasing rates to, say, larger users, the city is trying to find inven- tive ways to help seniors and low income residents. Miles NBER Working Paper No. 17023 May 2011 JEL No. K23,K42 ABSTRACT In determining the legality of online poker – a multibillion dollar industry – courts have relied heavily on the issue of whether or not poker is a game of skill. Using newly available data, we analyze that question by examining the performance in the 2010 World Series of Poker of a group of poker players identified as being highly skilled prior to the start of the events. Those players identified a priori as being highly skilled achieved an average return on investment of over 30 percent, compared to a -15 percent for all other players. -
Tony Robichaux 1961-2019
IN MEMORIAM TONY ROBICHAUX 1961-2019 Tony Robichaux spent 25 seasons as the leader of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and took the baseball program to new heights. Robichaux coached 29 All-Americans, five Academic All-Americans, 90 All-Sun Belt players and 55 All-Louisiana players in his 25 years with the Cajuns. During that time, he coached six Sun Belt Pitchers of the Year, two Sun Belt Players of the Year, two Sun Belt Newcomers of the Year, three Sun Belt Freshmen of the Year, three All-Louisiana Pitchers of the Year, one All-Louisiana Player of the Year and five All-Louisiana Newcomers of the Year. Robichaux took Louisiana to its only College World Series appearance in 2000 and won over 1,000 career games. Yet, that’s not how Robichaux will be remembered. He will be remembered and honored as someone who left behind a legacy of servant leadership and compassion that extended beyond the baseball diamond and into the lives of the thousands of student- athletes and staff he impacted during his career. MEDIA CLIPS – Jan. 23, 2019 Walker short in next-to-last year on HOF ballot Former slugger receives 54.6 percent of vote; Helton gets 16.5 percent in first year of eligibility Thomas Harding | MLB.com | Jan. 22, 2019 DENVER -- Former Rockies star Larry Walker introduced himself under a different title during his conference call with Denver media on Tuesday: "Fifty-four-point-six here." That's the percentage of voters who checked Walker in his ninth year of 10 on the Baseball Writers' Association of America Hall of Fame ballot. It's a dramatic jump from his previous high, 34.1 percent last year -- an increase of 88 votes. However, he's going to need an 87-vote leap to reach the requisite 75 percent next year, his final season of eligibility. Jayson Stark of the Athletic noted during MLB Network's telecast that the only player to receive a jump of at least 80 votes in successive years was former Reds shortstop Barry Larkin, who was inducted in 2012. But when publicly revealed ballots had him approaching the mid-60s in percentage, Walker admitted feeling excitement he hadn't experienced in past years. "I haven't tuned in most years because there's been no chance of it really happening," Walker said. "It was nice to see this year, to watch and to have some excitement involved with it. "I was on Twitter and saw the percentages that were getting put out there for me. It made it more interesting. I'm thankful to be able to go as high as I was there before the final announcement." When discussing the vote, one must consider who else is on the ballot. -
