Greetings! For the 13,000 students in our programs nationwide, the start of fall is about more than going back to school. For many, it’s the opportunity to reconnect with our counselors and our safe rooms. From preparing for our Domestic Violence Awareness Month campaigns, to partnering with baseball teams (both minor AND major), to celebrating a big milestone, we have so much to share with you. Check out some highlights from Safe At Home! Sneak Peak: DV Awareness Month Planning Every October, Safe At Home commemorates Domestic Violence Awareness Month by holding school-wide awareness campaigns at all of our 15 locations. A group of students – known as peer leaders – will work with the therapist to spread the word throughout their school, using skills like leadership and advocacy that they’ll continue to build throughout the year. This year’s theme is all about those skills, and more. “Your words are your power. How will you use yours?” will encourage students to look to the strengths and power they already possess to be an ally and advocate. We look forward to sharing stories about their campaign activities soon, but in the meantime, check out this beautiful campaign poster made by Safe At Home’s alumni intern, Julissa. Did you know that a gift of just $250 can help us buy the supplies we need for an awareness campaign for one entire school? Partnership with Minor League Baseball Raises $5000+ Safe At Home partnered with Minor League Baseball for our third annual Domestic Violence Awareness Night campaign this summer. This year, more than 100 teams across the country participated in the campaign – airing a special announcement about Safe At Home, providing resources and highlighting local support organizations, and sharing a special tip card produced by partner Topps. Together, we raised more than $5000 for Safe At Home and local domestic violence organizations. Read more about this special partnership. Raising Awareness with MLB In August and September, Safe At Home had the exciting opportunity to share our powerful message with a wider audience: the fans of the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Dodgers. At each ballpark, we hosted an awareness night, where fans viewed our new PSA on the jumbotron before the game. Guests at home got in on the action, too, when co-founder Joe Torre spoke with broadcasters about our mission. We’d like to thank each of these teams for their generosity, as well as Ace Endico, who commemorated the event with the New York Yankees by presenting a generous gift of $25,000 to support us. Read a full recap – including links to press coverage – on our website now. Mark your calendars! On November 14, 2019, Safe At Home will be hosting our annual New York City Gala. We will be celebrating 100,000 lives impacted through our Margaret’s Place program, as well as honoring 2009 World Series Champion & MVP Hideki Matsui, and honoring journalist, author, and female empowerment advocate Gretchen Carlson. The event will also feature a special musical performance by Tim McGraw. All proceeds support our programming, which provides healing, hope, and empowerment to children who have witnessed or experienced violence and abuse. Golf & Tennis Classic On July 25, Ali and Joe Torre hosted our Annual Celebrity Golf & Tennis Classic at the breathtaking Sleepy Hollow Country Club. This all-day affair included guests playing tennis and golf before joining us for a dinner reception. Our guests also heard first- hand from one of our alumni about her experience with Safe At Home – and how proud she is now to be working with the next generation of youth leaders in our program. At this year’s event, we raised more than $400,000 to support Safe At Home’s crucial efforts providing prevention and intervention services for children exposed to violence and abuse across the country.
