As a child and into my adulthood, I would be awaiting the Saturday Paper to read about your favorite HS Sports team. Or maybe listening to a scoreboard show locally or even statewide, as we have seen with Bob Lovell. But now the rules of the game have changed with Twitter and Facebook making communication with ease and with lightning speed. To- day, I may know most of the area’s football scores by around 10pm, with- out ever turning on a radio or staying up for a scoreboard show. Advertis- ers too have went away from print media. As big of a Cubs fan as I am, it never quite seems like baseball season until the RailCats take to the diamond in May. Obviously, this is a newer phenomenon since the team has not been around for the entirety of my baseball fandom, but the team has become something that I have looked forward to for the past several sea- sons. As one of the only long-term successful minor-league fran- chises to take hold in the Region, the RailCats seem to have be- come ingrained in the community and in this nearly 40 year old baseball fan.
