Her grandfather started the Cerreta Candy Company in 1968, and her father worked there for 45 years. Many of her aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as her grandfather -- Mr. C. himself -- are still making candy at the Glendale-based factory. Jaime attended Chaparral High and is a graduate of Arizona State University and the Walter Cronkite School of Broadcast Journalism. Her first TV job was a solo reporter in Joplin, Mo. She then produced and anchored a morning show in Springfield, Mo. before moving to Beaumont, Texas, where she worked as the morning anchor. Before returning to the Valley in 2013, Jaime spent seven years in Oklahoma City, serving as evening anchor on Fox. Jaime anchored Oklahoma Associated Press award-winning newscasts for Best Newscast and Best Election Coverage and has covered deadly hurricanes, hail storms, blizzards, flooding and droughts. Some of her favorite experiences in Oklahoma include shooting one-on-one basketball with Blake Griffin and talking football with Sam Bradford. Jaime loves spending time with friends and family and any patio with a view of Camelback Mountain. Mostly, she loves being back home sweet home in the Valley of the Sun. Paul Konerko Paul Henry Konerko (born March 5, 1976) is an American former professional baseball first baseman who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds and, for most of his career, the Chicago White Sox. Konerko helped the White Sox win the 2005 World Series over the Houston Astros, the franchise’s first since 1917. From 2006 to 2014 he served as the White Sox captain. At Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, Konerko was named the Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette Player of the Year as a senior, after leading his team to a Class 4-A state championship. Konerko hit .558 in 1994, the school season record until Ike Davis, who later became the first baseman for the New York Mets, hit .559 in 2003. Konerko also held the school season record in doubles, with 18, until Davis hit 23 doubles in 2003. He also held the school career record in doubles (44), until Davis passed him with 48 doubles. Konerko was ranked the #1 catcher in the nation during his senior year in high school. Summary In the interview, Gunderson discusses his early involvement in baseball, his first meetings with Pat Casey, and his earliest memories of being a Beaver. From there, Gunderson responds to a series of questions focusing on the 2005 season that resulted in the Beavers' first appearance in the College World Series since 1952. Of particular note are Gunderson's responses to questions concerning team chemistry and fan involvement as components of the team's success, as well as specific recollections of key games during the team's run through the playoffs. Gunderson then shares his memories of the squad's quick exit from Omaha in 2005, and the guarantee that he made to the media that the Beavers would return to the College World Series in 2006. Gunderson then turns his attention to the 2006 season, commenting once again on team chemistry and fan involvement, and tracing OSU's path through the playoffs and on to Omaha. He concluded that, “What is actu- ally being invaded here is America and its hold on its theoretical na- tional pastime. We’re not sure exactly when this happened—possi- bly while you were busy watching a Yankees-Red Sox game—but this isn’t just America’s sport anymore. It is Latin America’s sport.” While it may not have gone that far yet, the presence of Latino players in baseball, especially in Major League Baseball, has grown enormously. In 1990, the Racial and Gender Report Card recorded that 13 percent of MLB players were Latino. In the 2009 MLB Racial and Gender Report Card, 27 percent of the players were La- tino. The all-time high was 29.4 percent in 2006. Teams from South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean enter the World Baseball Classic with superstar MLB players on their ros- ters. Stark wrote, “The term, ‘baseball game,’ won’t be adequate to describe it. These games will be practically a cultural symposium— where we provide the greatest Latino players of our time a monstrous stage to demonstrate what baseball means to them, versus what baseball now means to us.” American youth have an array of sports to play besides base- ball, including soccer, basketball, football, and hockey.

    Academic Forum 24 2006-07 A Geographical Look at Home Runs Fred Worth, Ph.D. Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Abstract - In this paper, we will look at career home runs for major league baseball players based on the state in which they were born. Major league baseball is known for its interesting statistics. There are multitudes of numbers and multitudes of ways of looking at the numbers. For some now-forgotten reason, I once started looking at home runs by the state of birth of the home run hitter. This chart gives home runs by state (including the District of Columbia). Consider the chart below, where “n” denotes the number of players born in that state who have hit at least one major league home run.
