The best-of-seven playoff was contested between the Philadelphia Phillies, champions of the National League (NL), the defending world champions, and the New York Yankees, champions of the American League (AL). The two franchises had previously met in the 1950 World Series in which the Yankees swept the Phillies four games to none. The Yankees defeated the Phillies in 2009 four games to two to win the franchise's 27th World Series championship.Hideki Matsui was named Most Valuable Player of the series, the first by a Japanese born player as well as the first player to win it as a full-time designated hitter.This was the fifth Series played between teams from New York and Philadelphia. The series was also the fourth consecutive time that the Phillies faced a team from the AL East in the World Series. Using newly available data, we analyze that question by examining the performance in the 2010 World Series of Poker of a group of poker players identified as being highly skilled prior to the start of the events. Those players identified a priori as being highly skilled achieved an average return on investment of over 30 percent, compared to a -15 percent for all other players.

Search Home News Events Elected Officials Departments Online Services About Taylor Contact Only three teams remain unbeaten in the 2009 World Series in Taylor The number of undefeated teams has fallen to three in the 29th annual Junior League World Series at Taylor’s Heritage Park. Allstar baseball teams from Aruba, Puerto Rico and Arizona are the only teams that haven’t lost after day two of the international tournament for the best teams of 13 and 14yearold players. Play continues with four games on Tuesday: Italy (11) vs. Puerto Rico (10), 11 a.m. New Mexico (11) vs. Indiana (11), 2 p.m. Canada (02) vs. Aruba (10), 5 p.m. Arizona (10) vs. South Carolina (01), 8 p.m. Heritage Park is located at 21555 Pardee Road between Goddard and Northline. Tickets are $5 per carload per day or $10 for the entire week. Both fees include parking. The Junior League World Series is considered the “big brother” of the Little League World Series, the annual tournament for 12yearold ballplayers in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Taylor has hosted the Junior League World Series all 29 years. Four games are scheduled for each day, Sunday through Thursday. Teams are competing in two pools: International and USA. The International championship game is set for 5 p.m. Friday, followed by the USA championship game at 8 p.m. The World Series championship game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised live on ESPNU and on tape delay on ESPN2.
