The following scholarships are hereby announced

In order for the application to be valid, all forms must be truthfully filled in and in the hands of the First Curator no later than 1 pm (13.00) on Monday 22nd of May 2017. From Arvid Carlson’s scholarship fund – 1 scholarship à SEK 5 000 Managed by the . Established through last will and testament in 1951. One scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis to a male student at , who is also a member of V-Dala Nation. The applicant shall have attended the final two years of Swedish at Högre allmänna läroverket (Rudbeckianska gymnasiet) in Västerås, , and shall there have attained their secondary school degree. At university level, the applicant shall be undertaking studies within the fields of history, political science or statistics. The scholarship is a one-time scholarship, but may, on a one-year basis, be extended during the following two years. In order for extension of scholarship, the applicant must provide a special application for scholarship extension, which will be judged by the Senior Member’s college. The applicant must also remain a student at as well as member of V-Dala nation during the extension period.

From ’s scholarship fund – 1 scholarship à SEK 4 105 Established in 1917 by Hilda Ekman, wife of Johan August Ekman. One scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis to an applicant without means, who is a member of V-Dala nation and is studying at the university during the current semester. If awarded, the applicant will receive the scholarship at most six consecutive semesters.

From Adolf Eriksson’s scholarship fund – 1 scholarship à SEK 3 730 Managed by the Nation. Established in 1955. One scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis to a deserving and needy member of V-Dala nation, who is also conducting licentiate studies within the faculty of medicine or philosophy. A scholarship holder is chosen at the end of each academic year, and the scholarship is held for three academic years at a time, during which time the holder is responsible for giving up the scholarship, should they within those three years attain their licentiate’s degree.

From Henrik Hydman’s scholarship fund – 1 scholarship à SEK 3 930 Managed by the nation. Established through last will and testament in 1973 by Olga Sofia Hydman, in memory of Henrik Hydman. Scholarship is distributed biannually (1991). The scholarship is awarded to a person who is a student as well as member of Västmanlands- Dala nation during the present semester. The scholarship is awarded for one semester only. NB: Concerns a one-semester scholarship for the spring semester of 2017.

From Albert Koersner’s scholarship fund – 1 scholarship à SEK 3 140 Established through last will and testament in 1926. Awarded annually to a current student of the university with priority given to those studying law. The same recipient holds the scholarship for three consecutive years as long as they are, during that time, attending the university and remain a member of the nation.

From Carin and Viktor Ljungdahl’s scholarship fund – 4 scholarships à SEK 3 790 The scholarship is awarded to a needy junior or senior member of the nation. Said member shall, for the present semester, be a university student, and shall through diligence, a honorable behavior and successful studies give good hope about their person. Once awarded this However, should certain conditions be present, the holder of this scholarship may be awarded the scholarship again. Four competent applicants will be forwarded to the Seniors Member’s college. Thereafter, all applications shall be handed over to the nation’s , who will decide on four scholarship receivers. NB: Concerns a one-semester scholarship for the spring semester of 2017.

From Johan Samuel Löfberg’s scholarship fund – 2 scholarships à SEK 6 280 Established through last will and testament in 1888. Awarded yearly in the form of three scholarships. Awarded to a student of Uppsala University who is a member of Västmanlands-Dala nation, and who is in need of financial support. The person shall be known for their diligence and well-behaved manner, as well as successful studies. Priority shall be given to a student within the fields of history or science. The scholarship may not be held by the same person longer than three consecutive years.

From Emmy and August Wallqvist’s scholarship fund – 2 scholarships à SEK 3 040 Established through last will and testament 1938. Awarded yearly in the form of twelve scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to current students and members of Västmanlands-Dala nation. When the scholarship is awarded, as applicants are considered equally entitled to scholarships, priority should be given to students belonging to the Faculty of Humanities. The same recipient holds the scholarship for three consecutive years as long as they are, during that time, studying at the university and remain a member of the nation.

RESEARCH AND DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Gösta A. Eriksson’s research scholarship – 1 scholarship à SEK 11 110 Established in 1995. Awarded each spring semester to research student at Uppsala University, faculty of Social Sciences. The student shall also be a member of Västmanlands-Dala nation, and priority is given to those, who come from the municipalities of Kolbäcksån’s valley. The scholarship is awarded to an applicant with commendable merits from advanced studies. The Seniors Member’s Convention may, if needed, contact the applicant’s supervisor. The scholarship may be held for at most three consecutive years. It is the duty of the scholarship holder to, on a yearly basis, present to the nation a summary of merits necessary to continue holding the scholarship. In practice, this means that applicants who have previously been awarded the scholarships are given priority when applications are to be renewed (the more recent in time that an applicant has held the scholarship, the more priority is given to said applicant).

From Lisbeth Holmgren’s memorial fund – 1 scholarship à SEK 25 000 From the Lisbeth Holmgren’s (maiden name Carlsson) memorial fund, a scholarship of around SEK 25 000 is hereby announced. The scholarship will this spring be awarded to a member of Västmanlands-Dala nation, who, anytime during the period of 1st of March 2016 to 1st of March 2017 defended their thesis within the fields of either psychiatry, humanities, or social sciences, and who now holds their doctoral degree. Application shall be handed to the First Curator no later than 8th of May; thesis shall be attached to the application. NB: The deadline for this scholarship is on the 8th of May
