Evaluation of Energy Conservation Measures ii September 2010 Preface The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is charged by Congress with protecting the nation’s land, air, and water resources. Under a mandate of environmental laws, the Agency strives to formulate and implement actions leading to a balance between human activities and the ability of ecosystems to support and sustain life. To meet this mandate, the Office of Wastewater Management (OWM) provides information and technical support to help solve environmental problems today and to build the knowledge base necessary to protect public health and the environment well into the future. This document was prepared under contract to EPA, by The Cadmus Group. The document provides information on current state‐of‐development as of the publication date; however, it is expected that this document will be revised periodically to reflect advances in this rapidly evolving area. Except as noted, information, interviews, and data development were conducted by the contractor. -

So with that introduction, we are pleased to announce that as of this issue, the gazette formerly known as AllAboutJazz-New York will now be called The New York City Jazz Record. It is a change that comes on the heels of our separation New York@Night last summer from the AllAboutJazz.com website. To emphasize that split, we felt 4 it was time to come out, as it were, with our own unique identity. So in that sense, a name is very important. Eric Redmond, Jim R. Wilson — «Seven Databases in Seven Weeks
What Readers Are Saying About Seven Databases in Seven Weeks The flow is perfect. On Friday, you’ll be up and running with a new database. On Saturday, you’ll see what it’s like under daily use. By Sunday, you’ll have learned a few tricks that might even surprise the experts! And next week, you’ll vault to another database and have fun all over again. ➤ Ian Dees Coauthor, Using JRuby Provides a great overview of several key databases that will multiply your data modeling options and skills. Read if you want database envy seven times in a row. ➤ Sean Copenhaver Lead Code Commodore, backgroundchecks.com This is by far the best substantive overview of modern databases. Unlike the host of tutorials, blog posts, and documentation I have read, this book taught me why I would want to use each type of database and the ways in which I can use them in a way that made me easily understand and retain the information. It was a pleasure to read. ➤ Loren Sands-Ramshaw Software Engineer, U.S. Department of Defense This is one of the best CouchDB introductions I have seen. ➤ Jan Lehnardt Apache CouchDB Developer and Author Seven Databases in Seven Weeks is an excellent introduction to all aspects of modern database design and implementation. Even spending a day in each chapter will broaden understanding at all skill levels, from novice to expert— there’s something there for everyone. ➤ Jerry Sievert Director of Engineering, Daily Insight Group In an ideal world, the book cover would have been big enough to call this book “Everything you never thought you wanted to know about databases that you can’t possibly live without.” To be fair, Seven Databases in Seven Weeks will probably sell better. -

In 2010, Singer & Composer Ravid Kahalani Founded
In 2010, singer & composer Ravid Kahalani founded the rare combination of top musicians we now call Yemen Blues. From the start, Yemen Blues created an original sound that became a new language in contemporary music. The intense musicians hail from NYC, Uruguay & Tel Aviv. This includes the core members of creation: Rony Iwryn, Itamar Doari & Shanir Blumenkranz. Today’s touring cast of Yemen Blues mainly based on Rony Iwryn, Shanir Blumenkranz & Ravid Kahalani with changing casts of top musicians & great friends from around the world. Each member comes from a different background and brings their own sound and arrangements to Ravid's compositions. The result of this amazing group is a powerful energy that mixes Yemenite, West African, Latin & Jazz influences and what Ravid likes to call "New Culture Music". The mambo and North African rhythms create a joyful and deep foundation, while the vocals remind the listener of ancient Arabic chants mixed with funk & blues. For their first album, the group collaborated with the well-known maestro Omer Avital who served as a musical director & producer. Since then, Yemen Blues keeps magic alive with a constant stream of new songs and their world-renowned exciting live performances!! Dubi Lenz, the well-known Israeli journalist, was the first to listen to Yemen Blues’ music. He immediately felt the power of the project while the band was still in its exploration phase. He helped to get Yemen Blues’ first who at the influential festival and expo - Babel Med - in Marseille, France. It was then that something truly incredible happened. The band received a hugely positive respond from people all over the world and the name “Yemen Blues” began to spread like wild fire.
