From warm beer and fading light on village greens to the last vestiges of Britain’s Imperial past, these fans of the game will express how cricket has shaped their own lives, as well as discussing the wider cultural and political implications of the sport. Chairing the event will be broadcaster and journalist Martin Kelner. Followed by the presentation of the Pongo Cricket Emerging Journalism Award Pongo Cricket is a new and ground-breaking media platform especially for cricket fans. Pongo Cricket, in association with Yorkshire CCC and other partners, this year launched the Pongo Cricket Writing Competition, an opportunity for existing and aspiring cricket journalists to showcase their work. Barry Norman will present the 2009 award to winner Benjamin Matthews. HARRY GRATION'S SPORTING HEROES 8.00 PM - 9.30 PM - £5 A celebration of the career of the renowned broadcaster Harry Gration and the chance to see Harry in conversation with three of his own sporting heroes; former Yorkshire and cricketer Darren Gough, Leeds rugby superstar Ellery Hanley, and Leeds United legend Norman Hunter. Over the decades Harry Gration’s name has become synonymous with the championing of Yorkshire Sport and this will be a unique opportunity to join him for an absorbing discussion of great sporting achievements and revealing anecdotes from some of the most high-profile and entertaining champions the county has produced.
