RADIO MUSIC BBC Radio 2 Beatles BBC Radio 2 Beatles Last September BBC Radio 2 produced a spin off four-day Beatles Pop-Up DAB service marking the 50th anniversary of the release of the iconic Abbey Road album, broadcast from Abbey Road Studios, and celebrating the Fab Four as a group, as individual artists, and as songwriters, with a mix of live shows, simulcasts (with the parent network), and classic content from the extensive R2 & Apple Records archive. This was a partnership between R2 and Apple/Universal Music, and because of the place the band hold in the hearts of the public, it was an opportunity to invite talent from right across BBC Radio (Scott Mills, Lauren Laverne, Zoe Ball, Nicky Campbell and Greg James), and the music and entertainment industries (Dave Grohl, Gary Barlow, Grace Dent, Jack Savoretti, Paul Merton, John Bishop, Katie Melua and Guy Garvey), to share their love of the band, and their music catalogue. By utilising these names, alongside radio brands like Desert Island Discs, Mastertapes & Sunday Love Songs, we could not only target the band’s evergreen fans, but also a new younger 25-44 demographic. We also weaved complimentary simulcasts into the schedule, kicking off with the UK’s most popular radio programme, the Ken Bruce Show, live from Abbey Road, and then a special live concert from Studio 1, featuring presenter Guy Garvey (who also performed), the BBC Concert Orchestra, Rick Astley, Mark King from Level 42, Ruby Turner and Cerys Matthews, all interpreting classic Beatles songs in front of a small audience of competition winners. -

The year before I had listened with excitement to the launch of our local commercial station, Liverpool's Radio City, and wanted to find out what other stations I might be able to pick up. In those days the Guide covered TV as well as radio, which could only manage to fill two pages – but then there were only 19 “ILR” stations. -

Their reaction to the Arab Spring was especially marked because of a long-held feeling that strategic communicators from outside the state’s borders were purposely reinforcing domestic discontent. I characterize strategic communications as, most dramatically, investment by an external source in methods to alter basic elements of a societal consensus. In this essay, I want to examine what this process looks like from what might be called the “inside,” the view from the perspective of the target society. -

The Royal Television Society Announces Television Journalism Awards Winners
PRESS RELEASE THE ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY ANNOUNCES TELEVISION JOURNALISM AWARDS WINNERS London, 28 February 2019 – The Royal Television Society (RTS), Britain’s leading forum for television and related media, announced the winners of its 2019 Television Journalism Awards, sponsored by GuestBooker, at a prestigious awards ceremony held last night at the London Hilton on Park Lane. The awards ceremony was hosted by celebrated British newsreader and television presenter Mary Nightingale. Radio with Pictures: Radio Visualisation in BBC National Radio Richard Berry University of Sunderland Abstract. Radio has always had pictures. The ones the listener created in their own minds and this is, most of us agree, one of the medium's greatest strengths. However, radio is increasingly consumed on a digital platform (such as DAB Radio, Digital TV, a mobile device or a computer) on devices with screens, rather than a dial. This creates a problem for radio because when we look at the device we are listening to we see a screen that often lacks rich content. The process of Radio Visualisation is about filling this space. This papers focus, though, is the other ways in which radio is visualising itself online in a process that deploys transmedia storytelling techniques that build relationships with the audience, builds brands and helps broadcasters to tell stories in ways never before possible. In the spring of 2011 2.84 million British TV viewers watched a radio programme on their Televisions. They were tuning in via interactive television (or the 'red button') services to watch the BBC Radio One breakfast presenter Chris Moyles attempt to break a world record for the longest radio programme. The BBC installed a series of fixed cameras in the programme’s regular studio at the BBC's Yalding House studios, with added 'roving' cameras to allow the presenters to broadcast from other parts of the building and a cafe across the street.
