Complaints to the BBC This fortnightly report for the BBC complaints service1 shows for the periods covered: • the number of complaints about programmes and those which received more than 1002 at Stage 1 (Audience Services); • findings of subsequent investigations made at Stage 2 (by the Executive Complaints Unit)3; • the percentage of all complaints dealt with within the target periods for each stage. NB: Figures include, but are not limited to, editorial complaints, and are not comparable with complaint figures published by Ofcom about other broadcasters (which are calculated on a different basis). The number of complaints received is not an indication of how serious an issue is. La falta de especificidad de los nuevos medios y la vocación social de Internet convierten las redes sociales en una caja de resonancia de la televisión. Sin embargo, el impacto de las nuevas alianzas intermediáticas contrasta con su escasa rentabilidad, lo que impulsa a los actores económicos a buscar nuevas formas de negocio abocadas a difuminar los confines entre lo público y lo privado. Palabas-clave: Ficción, televisión, web 2.0, redes sociales, jóvenes. Abstract: Association between television and Web 2.0 inaugurates new modalities of relation with the viewer, defined by the increasing feedback between production and reception. Consequently, Textual and Interpretative paradigms are being modified. The lack of specificity of new media and the strong social vocation of Internet are turning social networks into television’s sounding board. However, the impact of new inter-media alliances contrasts with its lack of profit, which impulses economic actors to seek new business models characterized by blurring the boundaries between private and public. Throughout this period it has been faced by the challenge of how to deliver public service radio in a divided society, one that has for many years experienced violent conflict. Today as BBC Radio Ulster, the station has the highest audience reach of any BBC network radio service or those nations services in Scotland and Wales. This article outlines how BBC policy serves to deliver this performance, by examining a BBC Trust Service Review in relation to culture and diversity.
