Fact Sheet: SAF Day 2016 Combined Rededication Ceremonies

Background The Armed Forces (SAF) Day Combined Rededication Ceremony (CRC) has been held annually since 1st July 1988. The ceremonies are held across four geographical zones in Singapore - North/North-East, CBD/South, East and West, and are organised by civilian partner organisations on a voluntary basis. These organisers in turn invite their business partners as well as companies that are located in their zone to participate in the CRC. The participants at these CRC include employers and their NS and civilian employees. At these ceremonies, NSmen reaffirm their pledge of loyalty and dedication to the SAF and the nation. To mark the significance of the occasion, an Officiating Minister will be invited to officiate at the combined ceremony at each of the four zones. In addition, many other organisations also hold their own in-house rededication ceremonies to mark SAF Day. CBD/South Zone Minister for Defence, Dr officiated at the CBD/South Zone SAF Day CRC at Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI). This kick started the first of the four CRCs and is organised by Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This is first year SCCCI is organising for the CBD and South Zone. The pledge leader for the CBD/South Zone rededication ceremony, CPT(NS) Benjamin Ow led 190 Operational Ready NSmen from 87 participating companies in reciting the SAF pledge. CPT(NS) Benjamin Ow is an Executive Director at AnnAik Limited. CBD/South Zone Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen officiated at the CBD/South Zone SAF Day CRC at Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI). This kick started the first of the four CRCs and is organised by Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This is first year SCCCI is organising for the CBD and South Zone. The pledge leader for the CBD/South Zone rededication ceremony, CPT(NS) Benjamin Ow led 190 Operational Ready NSmen from 87 participating companies in reciting the SAF pledge. CPT(NS) Benjamin Ow is an Executive Director at AnnAik Limited. North/North-East Zone Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong officiated at the North/North-East Zone SAF Day CRC at SAFRA Punggol. It is organised by the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME). This is the seventh time that ASME is organising the ceremony. The pledge leader, LTA(NS) Jerry Chang, DY S4, 486th Battalion, Singapore Armoured Regiment led 150 Operational Ready NSmen from 108 participating companies in reciting the SAF pledge. LTA(NS) Jerry is a Procurement Executive at AMOS International (S) Pte Ltd.

West Zone Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community & Youth officiated at the West Zone SAF Day CRC at SIT@Dover. It is organised by the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). This is the first time SIT is organising the ceremony as they were previously a co-organiser in 2015. The pledge leader, MAJ(NS) Kelly Koh, S3, 789th Battalion, Singapore Regiment led 240 NSmen from 31 participating companies in reciting the SAF Pledge. MAJ(NS) Kelly Koh is the Director of Admissions for Singapore Institute of Technology. East Zone Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development officiated at the East Zone SAF Day CRC at Matrix @ . It is organised by Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF). This is the fourth time that SMF is organising the ceremony. The pledge leader, LTA(NS) Rayson Tan, Platoon Commander, 792nd Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment led 101 NSmen from 77 participating companies in reciting the SAF pledge. LTA(NS) Rayson Tan is an Assistant Manager at JTC Corporation.
